My shifter (hurst comp plus) has about 2 inches of play in each gear and i was told that there is a plastic piece in the transmission where the bottom of the shifter goes in that is notorious for wearing out. I need to know what this piece is called so i can buy a new one. thanks

2 inches of play?

To those who have replaced that bushing.
Does a new one eliminate all the play or is there still a slight amount of play in neutral?

I reused the original plastic one with a Tri-Ax and there is a slight amount of play in neutral.
I think the stock shifter had some play in neutral as well.

I replaced that bushing (4 bucks at the local Ford dealership, but 1/2 hour of searching the computer). If you didn't have it, I think you could get some good slop. If yours is there but worn, I'm not sure you could get that much slop from it.

Otherwise, if you have the shifter out and play with it and the slop is still there, it would likely be in the pivot in the shifter itself.

Good luck.
