Hey guys well good news I have a full ignition system now. With the new cap and rotor kit my 9mm wires work with my dist and looks great. Anyways I finally bought the final bit, the coil. I bought an MSD blaster 2 coil, it came with a ballast resistor, do I need to install this? I will be running the factory points ignition till later when I upgrade it. I really don't want to wire up this thing it won't look as neat, so if it can be avoided I would like to. What does that ballast resistor do anyways I am clueless?

Are you using the factory ignition wire to the coil? If so, you may not need the ballast as the factory wire is a resistor wire.

Take a voltage reading and call MSD to see if it is in range for use without the ballast resistor.

My factory wire fir the same car as yours is only about 6.5 volts.
