I have a customer with an 88 5L that is looking to replace that small horozontal rear shock on the rear suspension of his car. I can't find a listing anywhere for it or what the actual name is for it.

can anyone help me with a name and/or part # and/or brand name?

Thanks much :)

the name of these one is quad shocks you can find then mostly everywhere, also you can get it from a yunk yard, look at the mustang 87-98 and the turbo coupe also have it, i dont know if the 99 + mustang use the same quadshocks i hope this help you

thanks gerzen... I searched quad shocks through my supplier and it seems the only listing I could find were Bilsteins # B362149 (do not fit 99 - 02 cobra)

The 99-04 cobra's don't have the quad due to the IRS. They just have a single shock for each side. As far as quads go, they are suppose to reduce wheel hop but you are probably better off putting the money towards control arms. A lot of people end up taking these off in the long run. I wouldn't spend a lot of money on the quad because they really don't do any dampening for the actual suspension. If you are set on getting some, get some cheaper ones and pocket the difference that you would have spent on some nice aftermarket ones.

most auto part stores list them as "rear axle dampers"...that may help... as for brands, just about every shock supplier carries them(ie:monroe, kyb, ect)...this may help:

http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail.aspx?MfrCode=MON&MfrPartNumber=32242&PartType=50&PTSet=A

i went with the kyb's and they work great...good luck

They actually do a lot really. A lot of guys have spent $$$ on good LCA's only to ask why they have wheel hop after ditching the quad shocks. They put them back on and magically the hop is gone even with high dollar arms.

I wouldn't skimp out on the quad shocks after putting lots of money into everything else

+1 on the quads acually working.

i added some control amrs to my car and i fell into the myth that i wouldnt need the quads anymore. well i DID need them. the wheel hop was outragous, couldnt give the car any gas hardly it started hopping like a mofo. bought some new quads, and run the backwards to clear my tires and the hop is gone!

ok, well i'm pretty tired of posting this embarrassing clip, but whatever. this is WITH my old quads, which were pretty shot.... i can't imagine what it'd be like without any. and you'll just have to take my word since i have no vids yet of my car with the new cheapo KYB quads, but i'm tellin ya, no more hop at all. night and day difference.

i stopped the burnout cuz it was shakin the siht out of my car. you can see in the windows and hatch if you really look.

i heard this tip before, and i tried flipping them because they rubbed my 275 tires. i actually had less clearance when i flipped them. i ended up installing them normally, and cut the dust shield off in order to get a little extra clearance.
