Body shop said he can't find any used parts locally. will need to get new from Ford $$. As an example, the front fascia cover is quoted at $345!

He said I need all the lights, the headlight bar/housing, bumpers support & the cover. How hard is it to change all that stuff? Are those rivets holding the cover?

He saiad he'd charge me $500 if I got the parts.

Looks like a PIA though?

I found a front cover on ebay for $50 shipped from this guy.....

http://stores.ebay.com/Car-Parts-Wholesale

I think it was a typo, it was listed for $36.95.

I see:

1. PS headlight
2. DS turn signal lens (inner)
3. Bumper cover
4. Header panel (possibly)
5. Bumper reinforcement
6. Hood

If you got all the parts from a local junkyard, minus the hood, I would guess it's somewhere under $250, depending on how bad the 'yard wants to doink ya' on the price. If you get them off eBay, you'll pay less for the parts, themselves, but have to factor in the added cost of shipping. Hunt around on Craigslist and see if you can find anyone parting out a GT in your area - heck, you can usually score an entire donor car for $500 to $1000, tops.

Changing it all out is pretty simple. It all comes off in layers, basically - the biggest PITA being the bumper cover, itself. Once you get it all back together, you're probably going to have to fiddle around with adjusting your headlights. Otherwise, though, it's not too bad. At least you don't appear to have any mechanical damage or frame issues, so you lucked out there.

latemodel restoration has all those parts for a decent price for new stuff.

Front bumper cover $140

Head lamp panel $90

Bumper support $80

Bumper cover rivet set $19

repo headlight kit $100

Ford headlights/repo park/sides $160

about $500 in parts & $15 flat rate shipping, maybe the hood can be fixed?

Best of luck, it sucks but atleast it can be fixed.

i recently went to a local junk yard and got a bumper reinforcement for 30 bucks off a 4 cylinder lx, the whole front bumper facia comes off as an entire assembly with the headlights etc attached, its just a bunch of little bolts that attach it to the fenders. then the bumper reinforcement is 4 bolts if i remember right and it slides right out. its actually very simple. i would try craigslist first if i were you

Yes the rivets holds the bumper to the bumper support. These can be easily removed using a drill, you can get some rivets off of ebay for $22 and the Rivet tool to install back onto the bumper from harbor freight for $10. This where I bought everything when I had my bumper painted.

I can probably help you out with the bumper, I can swing by the local JY and get you the front bumper with the support for cheap. They are having 1/2 off sale this weekend.

Read the fine print. The fine print states that the flat rate shipping doesn't apply to stuff that has to ship truck freight, like a bumper cover. I know a guy that wanted to buy a crate engine from them because of their flat rate shipping. Didn't work that way.

Simple fix...

get a used GT bumper cover w/headlight panel...dont mess with the rivets if you dont have to
go on any mustang parts website and order some nice clear headlights
install lights into bumper using your original nuts
jack up car, access nuts where bumper bolts to fender and underneath front end
remove old bumper
reverse removal procedure to install new

This is a prime example of why the Mustang is not a winter vehicle

Sorry about the misfortune though.

thanks for all the tips guys. Craigslist isn't working our too good around here. Lot's of complete cars available but very few parts. I did get a line on a hood if I need one.

What's a GT scoop?

Late Model restorations sounds like a good deal. I did notice their shipping disclaimer and I think those parts that don't qualify for the flat rate are clearly marked in the description...hoods for example.

I got the front cover coming from an ebay purchase mentioned above and am waiting to hear back about a headlight bar. I think I'm going to replace all the front lights while I have everything apart. I just installed both new fog lights during the summer.

this had nothing to do with the weather unless you consider getting speared with a redneck trailer hitch weather related.

It's in a drivable condition and will have to wait until the weather warms for me to start repair. I have to fix the stang in the driveway as this is occupying my garage:

Thanks again, Len.

That's a nice vette quik91lx. Mine is a '70. It was barely driveable when I brought her home in 2000. It was originally an L-46 car (350-350) but all the good parts were already gone.

I built/blueprinted an old 454 engine to a little hotter specs than a 70 chevelle LS-6. I have a 4.11 posi rear waiting to go in. That's why my stang is my fair weather DD.

:SNSign:

Here's my site: http://www.corvetteforum.net/c3/themoneypit/ but it hasn't been updated in a while as the original site was free and then they decided they weren't going to support personal web pages anylonger. It's still viewable but I can't edit anything.
