Smog pump bypassed, O2 sensor delete?

Quick questions for all you mechanical geniuses. I bypassed my broken smog pump with a shorter serpentine belt (followed the sticky!). My question is this; I believe that the smog pump was use to preheat the O2 sensors, but now that its bypassed, is there any reason to keep the O2 sensors?

That's not what the smog pump is for. The smog pump was to provide o2 to the cat converters to aide in the conversion process of exhaust fumes. Depending on the situation, the o2 is pumped either into the heads to assist the first par of cats, or down the pipe to the lower set of main cats.

Do not delete the o2's. They are critical to modern efi. There are situations where you can delete the o2's, but removing the smog pump is not one of them

You need the O2 sensors for sure. They tell the ECU what the air/fuel ratio is and the ECU changes the injector firing to maintain the proper A/F ratio.

Yeah, DO NOT remove the O2 sensors under any circumstances. The engine computer needs them to maintain a stoichiometric 14.7:1 air/fuel ratio under closed loop conditions (idle, light acceleration, cruise) after the engine's warmed up.

Another reason is financial

O2's are the main component in the Closed Loop portion of your tune
that work hand in hand with your pcm

If you did not have them ... you'd have no way to use the least
amount of fuel when just cruising around town

Not havin em would be kinda like the old carb days when you had a highly modded ride

Even if you drove around town like your Grand Maw ........
Ya still used tons of gas
