Smog Pump Supercharger

Do you think you could run the outlet of your smog pump into your stock air box? It would blow air into it but not a very sufficent amount and would it be constant or would it raise with the RPMS? I am sure similar things have been tried but I wouldn't see why not. Obviously you couldn't have cats and you would have to custom make some things.... put it after the filter, but I don't know if the air in the smog is filtered, if not then behind the filter... I don't know what do you guys think.

I don't know if it is tech or not, if it isn't then don't tell me.... :nice:
 
The difference in HP from minute air volume and pressure would be unreadable on any dyno. You'd make more HP by just removing the smog pump and getting rid of the parasitic loss.

:stupid: Im with Retard on this one!:stupid: ..... have you ever took the discharge pipe off a supercharger and ran it??? the pressure is INCREDIBLE at idle.... no way your gonna get that with a smog pump...

That's almost as lame as running a Vortech with no air filter. :lol:
 
yea i thought of trying to hook an electric blower up to the intake but i couldnt find a blower with the CFM high enough to create actually boost pressure inside the manifold. I heard of some guy putting one of those toro air blower things on his intake and it added like 15-20 hp or some **** but u really need ALOT of air thats why superchargers are metal enclosed and sealed and have a metal turbine inside that creates PRESSURE, not just moving air (cfm).
 
I actually did this for real. My experiences:

I got the puley off my old alternator and drilled it and fitted to the "smogcharger". You actually need to pull the smog pump apart and sand down the inside to increase the clearances in there or it will seize almost right away. Those bearings were not meant to rotate really fast. When run, the entire car sounded like a cessna (btttttttttteeeEEEEEE!) but no noticable difference in power....it was a bit rougher actually. I probably just made some pre-aircleaner turbulence.

HOWEVER

This is a hands down BOMB way to pass emissions. Think of hooking up the smogcharger where it is supposed to go in the first place. You'll be belching fresh air out of the tailpipes. Your cats will glow red hot

The smog pumps seize up rather fast though once "modified" so hook up the belt around the corner from the smogshop. Once seized, you need to open them up and scrape the molten aluminum away from the vanes and sand some more clearance into it and reassemble.

I always thought the smog pump was a huge waste of space. That big pump and pulley and tubes to blow a measly few puffs of air. There must be a better way of doing that!

I guess a simple "No" wasn't sufficent:) it was just a thought..... yeah I have felt the air from a supercharger on idle and it is pretty nice. What about running the airconditioner to your intercooler, and cooling it that way.... would that work? Cuz the air going in would be more dense. And what about routing the air ducts from the aircondtioner somehow into your air box, that would give you some power..... I wonder if anybody has ever tried this.
 
Putting an A/C evaporator in an aftercooler box would be useful. There is a company that makes a CO2 system aftercooler. However, you have to keep re-filling the CO2 bottle. The A/C evaporator would work anytime you turned the A/C on. I'm not sure that you would get back the 8-12 HP the A/C system uses, but I suspect you might.

You do realize that the A/C clutch disengages at full throttle..............?
