Check the caps of the fluids under the hood. I had the service idiots leave a cap loose on one of my fluids (power steering i think), and it started dripping onto the headers. Real smokey. Could have picked up a plastic bag and burnt that too. Either way, you dont notice it till you stop.

Mine did that a couple months ago and it was smelling like burning oil. Found out that oil was leaking out of the PCV valve where it attaches to the valve cover. I gave it a slight twist or pushed it down some more, cleaned up the rest of the oil that had leaked out and have not had a problem since.
What does it smell like?

Did you have your AC on? It could have been water dripping off one of the Evap lines onto the exhaust manifold.....If it was oil or coolant, you'd know it because it would STINK to high hell.

Any seapage around the valve covers? It is possible that they aren't down tight. I'm takin a shot in the dark but anythings possible.
