First of all please don't give me the '5 lug swap' web links, I have them all saved in my favorites. I've read them many times, and know that the SN95 axles are 3/4" longer than the stock fox axles. It also says if you're going to run a 17x8 wheel, this is not a bad thing as they move the wheels out more even with the body lines. My question is, do I have to swap to disc brakes? If I'm correct, the longer axles will move the drum out away from the backing plate and away from the shoes, making a less than desirable contact area, not to mention letting debris and foreign material inside the drum. Is there a drum available that is wider to compensate for this? Will the 91 Ranger drums work?

i think that the ranger drums are the same width but not for 100% sure but some one in here is bound to know some brake sizes and width , if you have a halfway decent parts store around their books should have all the measurements on all of their drums , but they will have to resort to their books instead of their computers ,and usually that blows the parts store guys minds ,rendering them helpless... he.he,he ...... good luck man!

Two Ranger axles maintain the stock width of your current track, but with the addition of 5 lugs. You can't do the SN-95 axles and keep drums because of the displacement of the drums in relation to the brake shoes.

If you want to keep running drums, do the Ranger axle swap of the FMS 5 lug conversion. That is if all you want is the 5 lug configuration.

If you wanted the extra width to accommodate a wider wheel, then you'd be better off just converting over to rear disc brakes with SN95 hardware or a Turbo Coupe rear end (4 lug) or 93 Cobra rear end (4 lug).

I used moser 5 lug axles in Fox body length along with the ranger drums with no problems. You can't use drums with the longer SN95 axles though.

You need to use the ranger axles with the ranger drum in order to maintain the stock track.

Also, you can swap to Sn95 disk brakes and not push the wheels out 0.75". North Race cars makes brackets to allow you to run GT, Cobra, or '93 Cobra (4-lug) rear disks and keep the stock track
