Hey guys. I have been lurking the forums for a bit, and have run into a problem of sorts. Every time I click any links to FAQ here it says
"Page not found" and the rest of the page is blank??

I am looking at 96-04 stangs and want a little bit of guidance here.
I really love the way the New Edge (Sn95 II?) looks, but the SOHC seems modest at 260HP. Not to say its a slug, but I'd like to be in the 300-350 crank HP range. It will be a daily, so giant tires and lincoln lockers probably won't be on the build sheet for me, at most I would probably want to go moderate bolt on and possibly 3.90 gears.

There is also the possibility of the 96-98 cobra which is rated 305HP DOHC which are coming in very cheap now adays, about rivaling the prices of the New edge GT's.
(my first ride in my friends 97 cobra, with cai, bassani exhaust and headers, and 3.73s almost made me poop. I was always a GM guy, but I got respect for the Oval)

Say I want to spend 7k. What is my best bet?

If you want a little more power for cheap try finding a low mileage 4v. You can get some good deals if you look hard enough. If you want to stick to the 99-04 2v's you can do a few bolt ons to make em a little more fun. Def do some gears. Since it is a daily either a 3.73 or 3.90 will do. Next an off road mid pipe and some cams will do the trick. That will give you a nice peppy daily driver.

Personally I like the Mach 1s at todays prices. They didnt hold their value like the Cobras and they are much nicer than the regular GT.

The main limiting factor from what you described is your budget. For your HP goals and for that price, pretty much your only option is a high mileage 96-98 4v.

If it were me I would save up more (especially if you are looking at a new edge I would budget ~10k) and look at the 99-01 cobras, 03-04 mach 1's, or a nice 99-04 GT. To get in your hp range you can use the money you save with the GT and install cams - should put you in the hp range you are looking for.

I would look at the mach1's as they have a 4v engine and a nicer interior then the GT's. However what ever you end up buying your first mod should be mm full length sub frame connectors since the car is a DD. They will stiffen the car up but will actually improve the ride quality of the car.

or buy the car you want with a blown motor crazy cheap, and spend some time rebuilding it, learn the motor, and spend a few grand building what you want.

In the long run it's what you'll end up doing anyway. may as well start out saving...

I also found a forest green 98 cobra with 81k on the clock for 7 grand.
That seems to be about the going price for them now with moderate amount of miles on them.

Does that sound legit?

~Edit~
I have a dealership thats going to call me back about a Metallic Red 96 cobra with 59k on it for 6800 and willing to finance.
Hell yes, today might be a good day for me.

If the cars are solid then that sounds like a good deal. Myself and another member were both on the same search recently (within the last month) and we couldn't find any decent deals on Mach 1's in our area's. We both ended up with 99 Cobra's, we had a little more budget room however.

My dream was a sn95 Cobra, i dont seem so attracted to 99-04's i mean there alright but i rather have an old one. If your looking for hp than i guess you should face at the new Gen. I have a Low milage GT(1996) right now but someday i'll own a 96-98 COBRA!

When im over 18 yrs. For Sure! Lol.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but I don't think it's wise to finance a 15 year old car. If you can't front the $6800, save up some more until you can.

Yeah its rebuilt, that doesn't worry me much as long as the work done on it is proper.

And as for the Cobra. 59k is extreme low mileage for a 96. That doesn't mean there is nothing wrong with it but it's under warranty while I'm paying on it atleast.

What things should I look out for on this car?
Head gaskets, intake gaskets.. random catastrophic failures? (I own a GM, those are all pretty common with my car)

Just wondering what I should be looking at when I go test drive the Cobra tomorrow.

Well theres no point in this thread going further. I have a 658 credit score but apparently its impossible to get a loan.

Car came to 277 a month + 98/month for full coverage. I make roughly a grand a month part time,
1000
-375
-------
625

Weird that its just impossible to get the loan considering I could cover three of them.
Anybody maybe have any advice for me?

I thought the rule of thumb was how much you make in one week must be able to cover your monthly payment for a loan. This makes the highest possible loan would be $250 dollars a month.

$277 a month? How long is the loan for? Seems abit much for a $6,800 car.
