I have a standard 66 coupe (no mods)with the 6 cylinder engine. I have been having a problem with the plugs popping off while the engines running (usually when I start it)I can hear the popping sound and it immediately begins to loose power. Once I reconnect the plug it runs fine, I was told that I should get a new carburetor and that would solve the problem and lead to overall better performance. What types of carbs do you guys have and would you suggest rebuilding the existing carb or just buying a new one. Would this also help with starting the engine, usually wont start until 4th attempt now that its colder

I was wondering the same thing. Maybe vacuum port plugs? I've seen cars with the timing so far advanced they would backfire thru the carb and blow the vacuum plugs off. Is that what your refering to as plugs?

Sounds like he's got it cross wired possibly. Check the firing order.
