I will try to get my answer here seeing that the Snow Performance Forum has been hacked into and not useable. I am having problems starting my car for 2 reasons, too rich at start up. 1. I cannot reduce the amount of fuel provided by the injectors enough. I am very close but not perfect. My tuner has adjusted it to as much as he is comfortable with. So I am close but here in lies probelm

2. When intial start up of the car the methanol pump primes itself for 1 sec which will send a small amount of fluid each time you turn the key. This is my main concern. If the car does not start on the first try it is a pain. I would like to know if ther is a time delay relay I could use to prevent the intial shot of the priming pump until after the car is started???Anyone using this kit have any similar problems?? Thanks

I have gave that setup some thought and was trying to figure a way to remove driver error. My wife has been asking to drive the car again and I dont completly trust that she would remember everytime. I dont have any other good ideas yet.

It is simple enough if you can wire a relay.

The logic is that when the engine has boost pressure, the power for the methanol pump turns on. That means the relay is wired to where the contacts are normally open unless the relay coil is energized. When the relay coil energizes because the engine is developing boost, the contacts for the methanol pump close and power goes to the methanol pump.

Now that we have the logic, it is time to wire the circuit. You need a single pole, double throw relay or a single pole, single throw relay & a Hobbs pressure switch. The part numbers for the Hobbs switch listed is set to close the contacts at 4 PSI. Use the attached link to choose a switch with a different pressure turn on point. Hobbs switch information: http://content.honeywell.com/sensing/hss/hobbscorp/P3_6.pdf . You will need the Adobe Acrobat viewer which is also a free download – http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html. Do a Google search on Hobbs & the part number if you want a different switch turn on point.

The Hobbs switch is installed so that it reads manifold pressure. Plumb a line from any good spot between the blower and the intake manifold to the Hobbs switch to enable it to sense when the blower pressure exceeds the set point.

One side of the Hobbs switch is wired to ground. You wire one side of the relay coil to the other side of the Hobbs switch. The other side of the relay coil is wired to the red/green wire on the ignition coil. Any other switched power source will be OK. Cut the methanol pump power feed and wire one side up to the relay middle or swing contact. Wire the other side of methanol pump to the normally open relay contact. The only time the relay coil will energize is when you have boost. When the boost is created, the relay closes, the power for the methanol pump turns on and stays on only as long as the boost remains.

Relay: see your local auto parts store for a 12 volt 30 amp SPDT relay or see Radio Shack for a 12VDC/30A SPST Automotive Relay, Radio Shack P/N 275-226, $6.49. Either one will work.

Thanks
I understand and agree with the method of using this system as the pump would only have power while under boost(in this case 4 psi). I am an electrician by trade and understand your thoughts. I should have given more information about the methanol system.

It is a MAF sensing system. It is wired as it will only turn the pump on after a preset MAF voltage. In my case 3.2 Volts onset flow with a full on flow of 4.0 volts. These are adjustable via the controller.

I have wired the system using a 30amp relay powered from a direct source from the battery.I installed a 20amp fuse inline. I then run the correct wiring to the pump and ground the relay. I am using the radio ignition switched wiring to power up the relay. The instructions say to tap into any 20amp switched circuit. I didnt feel this was a good idea and couldnt get a response from Snow Performance.

The problem is at first start up everytime the key is turned the pump in design self primes for approx 1 sec. The pump design is such that it is gravity fed and must be mounted lower than the tank. During intial start up the pump self primes and shoots methanol into the system causing a overly rich condition, which is already rich to begin with. With a slight push of the throttle it will start 90% of the time. Being a pain in the @#$ that I am I dont feel that this is good and would like to fix it.

No boost, no methanol pump power sounds like it should be the solution to your problem. This overrides any existing controller you already have installed. I must be missing something...

Here's more of an answer to your original question. You want a 555 ic that drives a a relay. A 555 is a little 8 pin IC that is made to do time delay tasks. A resistor and cap are all you need to adjust the time dely in most cases.

Do a google search on 555 delay timer

Here's one of the many site sthat came up...
