so are 87 and 88 stangs pretty much pointless to mod??

I was simply hitting/reiterating points made by others. Some SD computers simply dont want to play nice with 24's. My comments were not made in regard to anyone's set-up or injector needs. :)

Derek said it well. The vac signal is critical on a MAP car. When one runs a cam with diminished vacuum signal, the puter sees this as the car being under load, even though it is at idle. So the TPS and MAP signal dont match and stuff starts to get funky.

As Purple commented, there are several very nice cams out there which work well on most SD set ups. It takes more work with a SD car, but a lot of guys do it for the sake of doing it or because we are stubborn and dont want to swap. :)

Yup im installing a nx264 just for the sake of doing it , Im a fan of doing things the cheapest way possible :)
purple87lx could you post those sound files pls?

He is right the cam is a tricky thing with SD cars,if you are gonna mod a SD car a (crower 15511) cam and a (comp cam nx264hr) are 2 cams that I know will work with SD.I have a 87 SD car that I adore and the crower 15511 cam is the one im goin with when I get the cash.(16...Minimum wage job  ) give me your email address and i will send you a sound file of both those cams, hope iv helped.
Thats the same crower I have, I have tried it 4 deg. adv. straight up and soon 4 deg retarded. gained 5 hp straight up over advanced and hope to gain another 5 on top end. but I feel I may be better off with a different cam.

Tmoss you have a damn nice budget setup :) , you make better power then alot of guys with expensive h/c/i setups here !
And more impressive to me is how he tunes for that torque average. :nice:

Thank you, time and patience and learning a lot about the tuning of SD can make these SD cars run very strong. Stock cams can be much more potent than many think also, but I do have a pretty nice grind for a stock cam - which vary significantly.

Tmoss - you gotta update that sig. Seriously. Evertime I try to link your numbers to show what you combo is making, I have to remember or do a seach where you posted them. :) 330 ft-lbs should be illegal w/stock cam. Really.

I may be re-using my stock SD cam depending on how the numbers come out. I need to get a degree wheel and the tools - then find a how-to somewhere b/c i don't feel like guessing. I'll just buy a 15511 or nx264 if I can't check the stock one.

Taking off the valve events is really not that hard. Mike Yount did a nice write up a while back, but I don't know if the search function will turn it up or not. I set uyp my TDC on the piston with the heads off, so I was dead nuts. Then you put the degree wheel on and when you get it tightened down, recheck TDC and the degree wheel - double check every measurement you make. I verified the valve events two times from each direction of rotation. If your going to do it, get anal about it.
