Yeah probably going to. I know 2.02 intake valves are gonna be overkill but i'm hoping my X303 will at least warm them up some. I'm slowly but surely parting together a nasty 351W, it's just slooooow going, and you KNOW you can't just let sweet ass heads sit in the closet I'm probably going to pick up a TFS Stage 2 cam or possibly a custom grind over the winter too.

There's gonna be some pic whorin insanity in the next few months

They're not as overkill as you think. Even with the big chambers and 2.02" valves they flow slightly less than twisted wedges, mainly on the exhaust side. So with your x cam and a good intake it should rip. When you get bored with that, let me tell ya, those heads LOVE boost.

+1 on the boost and juice tip you can't kill em! That X should be OK how much comp. you have? If you use a good dual plane like a stealth or RPM you can get back the little bit of low end you loose from the big valve and larger intake port.

They will work fine for you! Really good heads, my tuner said he used to have a set on his car back in the day and it didnt matter what he did, never popped a head gasket or anything. Like blackened said, they also love boost.

/\ This toolbox is putting 16psi through them at times with big timing and no intercooler with pos headgaskets. Old combos don't work though! 20 yr old iron heads, an alphabet cam and a performer????? JUNK!

How much can you find a set of those heads for used? I'm so wanting to buy a set for the flow and the help with headgasket retention under nice boost.

Ah I remember it like it was yesterday, back in the day. Those old school tricks still work good don't they? Remember when an X cam was the bad ass!!!

Ive seen them as low as $500 on corral, not sure if they were junk or in good shape just read the title. If these heads love superchargers, they are going to be nuts with a turbo!

Wow i was really expecting some huge overkill comments....i'm running a ported Stealth with them so i figured that would help make up the bottom end...they've got some extensive port work done as well and currently flow 305/246 cfm .600 and 292/217 cfm at .500 lift, and the X303 is something like .542 if i remember right so it should be somewhere around the middle of those. They've got stainless Ferrea race valves, comp cams triple coil springs and titanium retainers. They're actually fresh from the shop with new bronze guides and all that and a 5 angle valve job. Compression is stock, so 8.5/9.0:1 or something like that.

What i really wanna do is find a good forged crank and rods and build up a high RPM 302...something that makes good torque but doesn't blow the tires to pieces on the street but can wind up to about 7k and run like a monster on the highway. Then i'm probably stepping down to 3.73 gears and *hopefully* squeezing a T56 in the tunnel. I know i'll probably end up swapping out the X303 for something with a split duration favoring the exhaust...so we'll see.

Hey something dawned on me tonight and i wasn't for sure, but do stock pistons have enough valve relief in them to run heads with 2.02 intake valves?

Get the checking springs out its gonna be a tight one. I was thinking I have the Jr's on my Pure Street car with a .499 lift 258/265 at. 050 cam on a 108 that would be perfect for you. How many RPM's you want to turn I scream uncle at 7,500. That is what you need though a low lift high duration cam to get those heads workin for you I think you will clear those 2.02 up to around .500 inches with the stock pistons. You could always get a thicker head gasket if you need a smidge.

Ultimately i'd like to have a *usable* 7k RPM, meaning i can wind it out gear to gear without breaking things...but that's not going to happen on the stock bottom end right now. Basically want i wanna build is a road racing engine for the street.

My pistons were notched and I have a f303 so Iam guessing a X would need it also.
