So here is the combo i am thinking. help me with specs.

Ok so you all can see my mods already and not to impressive.

Well i have finally figured out "realisticly" what i want to do with the car.
So here gose.
I want to run reliable mid 12s "13s at this altitude" on the motor alone and be able to drive the car daily. I want Real good torque and good high end to about 5500. i dont want it to fall on its face up high.

So here is what i was thinking for supporting mods.
3.73s, pullies, tri-ax, et streets, king cobra clutch, mass air conversion, full exahust, sub frames, msd 6al. "add more if needed"

So for the motor i am going to rebuild it with 87 up notched factory pistons.
Now for heads i am going afr 165s with 58cc combustion chamber, 1.9 intake,1.6 exhaust. What should i go with for roller rockers?

Intake i am diging the BBK SSI w/ 70mm TB maybe port match the lower to the heads.

Now a cam is where i am not sure but i am thinking a ford racing e cam
but i am not sure if it has enogh top end to even out with the heads low end.
what are your sugestions? i am thinking something real close to .500 lift cuz that is where the heads flow real well and i wouldnt need any upgraded springs/ pistons. I want idel to 5500 power with torque around 2500-3000.

Help me out with suggestions on specs and sizes of things to acheve my goals as stated above. When i achieve my goal i will throw down 100 shot dry and see what happens.

Thanks

OK...here is my input...I like the heads...you'll like them too...Ford Racing has upgraded springs with the seat pressure of 135 for $70 when you buy through Summit...that means that you can get a nice custom cam to match those AFR's...throwing an E-cam in there will certinally not do them justice...If you're don't want to spend the extra $150 on a nice custom cam and want to cheap out on the most important piece in the engine...(hint hint) go with a comp cam grind...but those will still be about $250...I would not throw anything Ford cam in there except maybe the X-cam...You definately want a cam that doesn't over do the duration on the exhaust side since the AFR's are fully CNC ported...so an X cam with 224/224 would do well...NOW the intake...I would save my self the $150 and buy an Edelbrock Performer or a Cobra intake and use the rest on a "Custom Cam" from FTI off course...the SSI intake just doesn't do it for me personally...and according to the new test results done by 5.0 mag (oh yeah mag specs) its one of those high RPM intakes...so if you want some low end I would suggest either a Cobra or Performer...P.S...AFR's will pull to 6000RPM really hard with the right setup...almost every custom cam I've seen for AFR's goes well over .550 lift...Do it right or do it twice... :flag: :nice:

If your gonna rebuild the engine, dont use a stock piston, use a better aftermarket piston with bigger reilefs and more compression. Use a 70/75mm TB, edelbrock RPM manifold and I second the Ed curtis cam recommendation. Ask for something that'll pull to the limiter and run 11's. You WILL be changing valve springs. Why put a $1500 head on your car and shift it at 5500?????

lol...here we go again...did you find a box? lol

K, so keeping the fact in mind i will be driving the car everyday and runing 91 octane premium. I have a few questions.
First off if i get upgraded valve springs and bigger notches on the pistons to run a cam that will pull to 6000 how well will my stock bottom end hold up. Will the car be as reliable? and daily drivable?

How much are after market pistons vs stockers?
How much is a custom cam?

What cam specs would i need to run inorder to have peak torqe at 2500 and still pull good to 6000. I want as much low end as possible with a pretty good top end. that was why i was thinking runing to about 5500.
Also their is only about a 7cfm flow differnce between .500 lift and .600 lift on the afr's.
I really like the bbk ssi and i am wondering if it would really make that much of a differance to have that on there vs a preformer.

so help me out on the cam guys.
I know i am getting the ssi and the 165s.
I have been looking at comp cams and they have a huge selection. The ones i am thinking have an operating range from 1800-6000 or 1600-5800. Should i get 1.6 or 1.7 roller rockers?

Talk to me y'all, thanks

Match the TB with the size of the intake opening, in the case of the SSI, that would be 70mm, go accufab, AFR 165's are great heads, they were my first choice. Aftermarket forged pistons will cost a lot, but will do what was said before. Speed pro's are decent and a good price. I third the custom cam idea, not much more than a regular but the results are usually much better.

Your plan sounds well thought out.

Here's the couple things I'd think about changing were I you....

Right off the top.... forget about the BBK intake. It looks good, but there is no conclusive proof it works like they claim. AFR recommends the Performer RPM on their website for that head. I'd buy the RPM II myself.

As for roller rockers you have 2 options on that head. 1.6:1 or 1.7:1. I'd say 1.6:1 I like less rocker ratio and more physical cam lift myself.

Speaking of cam I'd say the best bet for maximum power is a custom FTI cam. It's only like $325 for a custom cam made for your setup and the Comp Cams off the shelf will be like $250. So for another $75 is it worth knowing you have the best cam for YOUR setup?
