So I got the Pypes H pipe today....

And was surprised at the lack of craftsmanship with it. Maybe I was just spoiled by my Bassani x pipe, but this is not what I was expecting. Oh believe me I am still installing it, but I have my gripes. For instance, the section that connects the two pipes, the joint in the H itself, is like a 3" pipe welded over a 1" to 1 1/2" hole, depending on which side of pipe you are looking at. Would it have been too time consuming to at least take a grease pencil and outline the size of the hole to cut that the pipe will be welded to? The welds themselves could have been a little cleaner, though obviously this is nothing that will be seen. Like I said, just gripes Ah well, I guess I got what I paid for. One thing that did cross my mind was to take a grinding bit and enlarge the hole in the H joint so there is not a massive lip around the edge.....

What do you guys think? Is this just the way they build their stuff?

Sounds just like my pipe.....atleast they're consistent. Anyway, I bought mine a couple months ago for $150 delivered, so I can't complain. The fit though during install was great; no problem. I ended up having mine welded at the H, just to ensure no leaks around the "clamp" they supply.

66 Stang, if you're interested I have a ProChamber I need to get rid of. And possibly a Bassani x pipe too

Hopefully I will have the time tomorrow after class to get it done. Its been raining all day and they are calling for it again tomorrow, and the garage is too tiny to allow maneuvering of a jack to get the car in the air

Would there be any downfalls to enlarging the holes in the joint? It really does not look like much precision was utilized in making the ones that are there now...

Honestly, you are likely spoiled by Bassani.
Pypes makes a value-oriented product, but is still decent.

I've seen a few put on and the fitment is great. Hope all works out for your modification.

The ProChamber was bought because my intention was to swap it in place of the Bassani mid pipe, but the Prochamber was shorter than the Bassani and did not meet the pipes coming off the headers. The Bassani pipe is the 7 piece stainless kit. It has the comp cats and the cat delete pipes. But it will be short 2 clamps because I will have to use those in place of the clamps that did not come with the Pypes pipe. It has been on my car probably 8 or 9 months.

And if you happen to have some Steeda pullies laying around, we could possibly work out a trade.....

actually i dont have the car yet, its on order and should be here by june-july so i jumping on any oportuniy that arises for parts if i see em. i would take teh bassani from you since im getting teh race axle back from them and would love to hear that setup, but if 2 of the clamps are missing, the price would have to be right ya know, but ill keep in touch with you through pm if anything, thanks man!

Before I actually say I am selling the Bassani, I want to get the new pipe installed and make sure it is something I want to stick with. I am shooting for Friday at the latest, so long as nothing stupid happens between then and now

And the clamps can be ordered from Bassani, I know this because I broke one overtightening it They come in pairs and are $35 after shipping.

Alrighty, well after some irritation and dissappointment, I got the pipe installed today. Let me start off by saying that I was dissappointed because of the fact that when you buy this pipe, they assume you are going from a stock mid-pipe to their mid-pipe. Wrong. In my case anyhow. The reason this is a problem for me, is because the instructions call for use of the factory band clamp to join the mid pipe with the rest of the exhaust system, because the pipe itself is not flanged! So when I went to "bolt up" the exhaust, I had two pieces of pipe that had to be clamped together that were the same exact diameter BECAUSE, I no longer have the factory pipe! I was swapping from Bassani which uses these excellent band clamps that are designed to slide over the flanged end of the pipe. So here I am with two sections of pipe the same diameter that I have to join together with clamps that, even when fully tightened, do not even touch the 2.5" pipe.

I had to run to Auto Zone and get this exhaust repair kit that comes with what almost equates to aluminum foil that you have to cut with shears, and band clamps and exhaust tape. Now I have to order some new clamps so I can fully secure the pipe. Seriously, would it have been difficult to flange the end of the pipe, or at least include a clamp to join the two sections?

Needless to say, I am on the fence about how it sounds. It sounds really muffled, almost like it did when I had the x pipe and the comp cats on. But I am hoping that maybe the makeshift clamps are leaking and preventing it from soundling like it could. I could almost say it sounds about 6 times less loud than the x pipe. But hey, the tinny sound is drastically reduced

New clamps will be ordered tonight, and once all is tightened up, then I will make my judgment. So right now I am going to hang on to the x pipe until I decide whether the h pipe stays or not. Maybe I should be looking at long tubes......

Are you saying the Pypes off road H will not bolt up to the factory pipes that go over the axle? I was just getting ready to buy one to replace the Bassani X I got, put the off road sections in the other day and with the JBA's it is way to raspy, sounds like hell. I will either get one of the h pipes or put the cats back on.

Yes, the Pypes H will bolt up to the factory over-axle pipes. It is designed to be a direct replacement for the factory catted H midpipe.

It will only bolt up if you still have the factory band clamp. The clamps that the Bassani uses will only tighten sufficiently around a flanged piece of pipe, and the Pypes pipe is not flanged. Basically you have two sections of pipe the same exact diameter that you have to bolt together. I ended up ordering some 2.5" band clamps from Jegs, the ones at the very bottom of the page:

And after getting the clamps on and getting everything tightened, it sounds pretty good but nowhere near as loud as the x pipe. The raspiness is still there, but NOWHERE near as bad. I would say it got reduced by about 75%, its tolerable now. I can at least hold out until I get my LTs

This is true, but it is more of a pain if you are swapping from another mid-pipe, because the Pypes pipe calls for use of the factory band clamp, which I did not have.

I used the factoey band clamps for my Bassani, the X pipe did not come with clamps?

When I got my x pipe, it had enough clamps that I did not have to use the factory clamp. I then got rid of all my factory stuff, and just stuck with everything that Bassani sent. The Bassani clamps did not work with the Pypes pipe, they could not be tightened sufficiently.

So I got the Pypes H pipe today....
