So i have this problem.

I want to ask a technical question, but i like my post count too much. lol

I pulled my heads off yesterday, and I have a somewhat stripped spark plug hole. along with some really stripped header bolts holes, and valve cover bolt holes. lol

My question is. How would i go about fixing those. Also would they be reliable enough to use the heads again. btw, there aluminum.

im not sure if it would work for the spark plug, but a helicoil kit would fix the bolt holes, as long as its just one or maybe two messed up holes. if its the whole bank, i'd have second thoughts, espically if youre doing it yourself in the garage just because of the possibility of the hole not being straight.

what you might have to end up doing is taking them to a machine shop, where either they can helicoil, drill and tap for a larger bolt (would work better for the vc than the others), or worst case scenario, weld/plug up the holes, face, and redrill/tap.

I second all that. In most cases the machine shop can just about fix anything unless it's really screwed. Sometimes best to leave a critical repair to the pros. And afetr repairs it's sometimes cheaper to buy a new bare head unless you have machine work already done to them.

Shops use the helicoil kits all of the time, but they are also insured. The spark plug may have to have some welding and retapping.

Take it to the pros man, don't do that one yourself!

I've used the helicoil method on stock iron heads, not aluminum.

my x heads I helicoiled some threads on it, and it never was the same, I wish I would have welded it up and did it over..
