so. i was wrong.

removing some of the power steering fluid helped temporarily. I am convinced it is the rag joint now. where would be the best place to get one cheap and is it hard to put on or should i let a mechanic do it? im not looking to pay alot for this fix. thanks

A new one can be had at Advance Auto or Pep Boys out of the HELP! section. The factory rag joint is riveted together so I let the garage do mine. Once replaced (the replacement ones are bolted together) they are easily replaced again in the future.

about how much total did it cost you between the part and the labor for the mechanic?

I don't have the bill anymore. I know the part was only about $12. I think it may have been like $80-$120 labor. It's easy for them because the have a lift and can stand under the car and work with it. Doing it yourself isn't extremely hard, but when you only have jackstands, it doesn't give you much space.
