i sold my truck (88 s10) and bought something more reliable/economical. Its an 02 GT vert, and already has a magnaflow catback and a SCT handheld tuner. But it seemed like the 65 got put on the back burner, which i kinda figured it would.

So now, i want to start on the 65 again, making it reliable more then worrying about horsepower. Im wanting to put new wiring from the cabin to the engine bay and put in an AOD.

Whats needed for the AOD swap? Can it be done in a weekend? Or do you think i should drop the motor and tranny at the house (since its no longer a DD) and then when the time comes put everything in at the same time?

You went somewhere???? Didn't realize you were gone!

Since the 66 is not your DD; you have time to play with it. If you have the jackstands/ramp/chassis lift in your garage; I'd say pull the whole mess! Then you have room to "clean up" the engine bay, pull in new wiring, address any leaks, paint the engine, etc. Mating the engine and tranny will be easier if you're not trying to do it on your back under the car; especially trying to line up the torque converter and the flexplate.

Just understand that EVERYTHING will be stripped out of the car, firewall to core support. The hood's gonna be coming off, so find a safe place to stand it up where it won't get scratched/dented. Now's the time to check out and maybe replace those hinges! (Gotta do that yet on the Cougar; and that hood is a bunch longer than I am tall).

No kidding, spend some quality time on the car. You'll be thanking yourself later.

I'm getting old and lazy; so I'd go with a stout AOD. My back is also getting old and lazy and it doesn't seem to heal up as fast as it used to; so (AOD or 3550) I'd still let the hoist take them out as a unit!

I did the AOD in Chepie. It's more work than you think, much tighter fit, new mount, exhaust clearance issues, shorter drivershaft & new yoke.

But, with 3.55's out back, Chepie did have alot more pick-up, and OD on the highway was nice!
