So is a comp 2031 cam good for my p-heads?

see? what does a stock motor come with? also, do i HAVE to change my rockers to 1.7 do you think? will it hit the pistons?
 
well the only diff between your combo and the one me and a freind assembled for his car last year is the heads, he uses 94 Cobra GT-40 Iron heads, i have the GT-40's off the explorer (96 model with super low miles)....anyway with 1:72 and the 2031 there was plenty of clearance, we almost said **** it and only clayed one side, but we did em both to make sure.

anyway, compression is about what you said, hes hitting 12 # with a PS1C and it runs great.

that cam will have a bit too much lift for gt40 heads, they like lift at around .490-.500 lift, the dur. is good with a 6 diff. in dur. and a good split that fav. the exh. side (from what I have read/heard is that .010 - .015 is good with gt40s) and not bad for a off the shelf cam. You will probably have good power with that cam but it is a bit too much lift. I would probably say if you ported and got a good valve job that the lift would ballance out to be a good cam for those heads.
 
I have seen good track numbers with the trick flow stage 1 and P heads

no dyno numbers though.

But it has the necessary split duration for the P heads.

the thing with these off the shelf cams is the ramp rates are often lazy. a high velocity head like the P will benifit with one of the XE comp lobes

yes compresssion effects the cam shaft as in some camshafts are better suited and need more cpompression
 
whats an xe lobe? ok, i would like to get that trick flow now from what people have told me, only thing is that it doesnt have the lobe seperation for our computers to like it for idleing. the crane has a 112 i believe, what ever is good for our cars anyway. the specs seem the same on the cams, except for the lobe seperation
 
well the lift of the tfs1 is .499 and .512 (or is it .510?) w/1.6r anyway I run it and looked at it since it was realy close to the numbers the heads like (although still a little high), and you are right the lobe sep. is kinda funky with the 94-95 computers. Its your choice and they both have there up and down side.

Bear with me as I am a newbie, I need a quick reply because I am helping a friend put the TFS stage 1 cam in today and we are worried about the piston to valve clearance.

Car is a 91 gt 5.0, stock bottom end, but we are installing edelbrock performer 5.0 heads with 1.90 intake valves.

Do you think the tfs stage 1 cam will work with stock pistons and 1.6 rockers?

Yes, it will work as said above, I dont think you run into issues until you get 2.02 vavles with the stock pistons, or go with a lot of milling/shaving the heads with 1.7rockers on the stock pistons. Or both 2.02 and shave of course.
