So when do you make that decision????

I have been torn on my car lately....with fuel prices going up I have been driving my 06 ram back and forth to work and its not cheap. I dont have the space to keep a beater at my house, so buying another car is out of the question. So I contiplated putting my car up for sale IFFF I got the right price for it. Or do I just start driving it on nice days and deal with the fact's of what it will recieve when driving it. Such as scratches, chips, etc etc. I wouldnt mind driving the car, but I just dont know, I keep talking myself out of it. I thought if I sold it maybe someone would do as I did and care of the car and driving it apporiate and not just beat the snot and run the car down. It has 26,500 miles on it and exterior is pretty much spotless! Part of me says its a car...just drive it...but then the other half hurts when I think of what could happen....just like this morning had a huge rock crack my windsheild I have a price in mind that I think if I got that I would sell it and pay the rest of the truck off and just hang on to the cash for a while.....then agian I thought about finding another performance wise car to buy without getting into a payment to drive everyday....most performance cars do decent on highway mpg...so lets hear some opinions just to tease my brain some more haha

Oh yeah....more teasing....

Drive it on the nice days, its a GT. If it was a cobra or mach 1 that might be another story.

i personally could not drive my GT every day. especially the last couple of months with the roads being plastered with snow, ice and salt. i dont even like driving it in the rain. it isnt a show car but i like it much better when its clean. car stays in the garage alot of the winter. i picked up a pretty clean 98 EB explorer two summers ago to take the role of a DD. $2750 and 19 mpg city. works well with my computer business too hauling around pc's.

right now my explorer is a disaster but i much rather it be than my mustang.

I will make one thing clear thats for sure, I wouldnt drive it once snow has come down. It would still be garaged over winter of course until the roads are free from salt etc. But basically once the salt is ghone I would be looking at driving it mostly everyday that it doesnt rain, commute is about 25 miles each way highway, so 50-55 miles a day.

If you sell it you still have high gas prices and a truck that doesn't get the MPG you want. I would sell/trade the truck and get a gas saver for a commuter.

The bad news is I use the truck ALOT. I did ponder trying to find a cheaper truck or something, but Im never happy unless the vehicle is everything I wanted haha. If my car wasnt black, I wouldnt be making this post, I would be driving the car Decissions decissions decissions....

I'd keep it, because if you did sell the 'stang, you'd probably regret it fairly quickly, been there done that! Well, if you take any vehicle out on the road stuff can potentially happen, whether or not you're going to work, or for a nice summer drive, it's unavoidable and not worth getting overly worried about it, don't sweat the small stuff. And if something does happen, just about everything is fixable

I picked up a 2000 escort zx2 a couple of yrs ago for the better gas mileage and to use on crappy driving days. I know you mentioned you didn't have the room for another vehicle; however, there's always alternatives.

It's a car. They are built to be driven. Whether it's a Mach, Cobra, GT or V6. I drive mine daily to work and home. I drive it in rain, snow, hot or cold. Even if it was a fully blown Shelby, I'd drive it as a DD and not think twice.

+1. Gas isn't going to get cheaper, if anything- prices are going up this summer. You say you need to truck but do you really? If you are not hauling stuff or using it for work than why not get something that gets better gas mileage?

This might be a little far fetched and may cost ya some money but anyways I work for toyota and we offer a product that we put on some of our vehicles if the customer calls for it. The product a clear adhesive the paint still shines through the product metallic or w/e color we generally only put it on the hood and partially the front bumper its a rock chip prevention product. Gets applied the same way a vinyl wrap on a car does I beleive. But maybe consider going that route if you're worried about dings scratches chips and what not. Would allow you to DD the stang atleast and if the adhesive got in to bad of shape would be easily replaceable. Only downfall is it may put ya 3-4k in the hole.

Atm I'm considering the same route my cars black and I gotta rinse it every mornin because of dust in my area and I got swirly's and rock chips which annoy me. Downfall of buyin a used car . So I'm more than likely gonna vinyl wrap the car flat black which is still expensive but I have less worry about gettin a bad paint job and if a panel gets damages its just as simple as getting another sheet of vinyl.

Btw you're car is beatiful wish my car made more power so I could run the skinny fronts and meaty rear combo like urs .

Thats what I do. I drove mine up until the first snow (mid December) and I only drive my stang on nice days with no rain. Once the snow stops and the roads are clean again I will take the cover off and drive her again. Most likely won't be until the end of March.

I traded off my 01 Dakota R/T years ago when gas prices first went through the roof. It didn't really do anything all that great (slow, bad gas mileage), but it was my first new vehicle (got it with 35 miles on it), and traded it off with only 20K on it. I didn't even get half of what I originally paid for it, and it still smelled new inside. I would recommend trying to find an early 90's Honda Civic or Accord, and trying to find a place to stash it rather then giving up your GT.

Exactly. Do you NEED to have a truck or do you WANT to have a truck? If you don't need it, what do you want to keep more? The Mustang or the truck? Both are not great on gas, but the Mustang is likely better.

Also, do you have a vehicle to use in the winter? If so, keep the Mustang. If not, perhaps keep the truck?

Didnt read any comments lol. I remember ur last NA stang (an ispiration for me as i "think" u were running 13.4's) keep it mang! U finally have a blower car, strap the fuccing snow tires to it and drive that mofo wherever you need to go. Otherwise pu a 4 banger civic, stratus, cavalier, etc etc and throw some blizzacks all around....if u cant get where u need to go with those beaters and snow tires, you prob shouldnt go anyway. my .02

lol no no sorry ateup didn't specify which part the whole car can be generally wrapped for 3-4k from my understanding, our company atm only does the hoods and portions of the front bumper. The ones I'm lookin at made by a company called skinzwrap I beleive won't peel or fade for 7 years. When I went to the turkey rodrun in daytona and saw an m3 down there with it I fell in love.

yeah thanks all....Im slowly learning that my car is that....just a car...I keep looking at all these classics and my car is nothing more then a nice clean GT....its not going to be worth a fortune in 15 years etc.....so it will become driven on nice days once salt is off the roads....but I am debating getting another truck or something. I do use the truck, I hunt often and travel to the mountains quite a bit and haul stuff often.

So when do you make that decision????
