I was looking at an 02 GT 5spd for a DD the other day. I have no experience with the 4.6 cars. The car appeared to be stock except for mufflers and K&N cone filter. It was in decent shape for 80k miles, but not flawless.

I noticed the gas pedal in the resting position was about 3" further towards the floor than the brake or clutch. Is this normal? This made for awkward driving. It also had terrible throttle response, which I attributed to the pedal problem.

I haven't had a chance to drive a another car to compare to. Is this a common wear issue or signs of previous modding? Easy fix?

That is the normal position for the gas pedal, unfortunately. You do get used to it, I don't notice it anymore.

Why on earth would you want the accelerator pedal to be 6" off the floor? that would be _extremely_ awkward and uncomfortable driving down the highway with the pedal barely depressed. The angle of your ankle would not be comfortable. I have _never_ seen a car with the accelerator pedal at the same height as clutch/brake, or even anywhere near..

I agree, but it seemed very excessive in this case. I drive stickshift cars all the time and I felt awkward in the car. It was exaggerated by the fact that the car literally would not accelerate unless the pedal was half depressed, which I thought may have been due in part to the pedal issue. Maybe too much slack in the cable or a broken cable.

they do have a mod you can do to fix that. i did it. Now the pedal is about a half inch below the brake pedal. All it does is take the slack out of the throttle cable i did it so i could hit wide open throttle with out having the pedal touch the floor.
