Sold my Mach and ordered a....

New Shelby GT. Tough decision but i did it. I bought the Mach new and it was garaged and pampered with only 9,100 miles on the clock. Took a deposit on it Sunday from a fellow in Indiana.

Last year we bought a new 06 GT auto for my wife and the more seat time i spent in it, i realized the new platform is light years ahead of the previous models. I also like the retro bodystyle better since i'm an "old guy". I also like the blend of old school look with the modern technology on the new cars.

Monday night i drove A Shelby GT at my local dealer to see if it was comparably to my STOCK Mach in performance with the cold air intake, computer performance recalibration and exhaust. I was surprised and think it could be a drivers race between the two. If the Mach is a bit faster it's a small trade off for the step up in cars imo. I think these cars could possibly be sleepers for future collectability since they are converted by Shelby and carry a Shelby tag with a Shelby CSM number, although thats not the reason i bought it.

The car i drove wasn't optioned the way i want ,so i ordered one since they had a couple more allocations. This car will probably be the toy i retire with. When i'm gone and fertilizing daisy's, my grandson who's 2 yrs. old now, will own it.

Congrats on the order! I've read some reviews that the suspension set up can be a bit harsh on regular roads. I don't want to bash this car at all, because on paper it is really attractive. But I can tell you first hand that owning a car with an over aggressive suspension (meant more for a track) can get old really quick. Just a word of caution there.

Thanks! I took it on a a few rough roads to get a feel for the suspension and i can live with it. Didn't feel much more harsh than my stock Mach really, maybe due to the little longer wheelbase and new platform. It will be just a weekend driver anyway like the Mach was.

The Machs are great cars, no doubt- I had an auto '04. But, good choice- you won't regret it!

Thanks! I would of kept the Mach and bought the Shelby but the wife wasn't going for that idea.

I don't get it. Those cars won't be work a dime in terms of collectors item in a few years, even in a 100 years won't be worth any thing. How much did you pay? Loaded it's about 38k, then add in taxes etc, and you are looking at 40K for a car which car and driver or road and track (can't remember) said you could duplicate for 2600 bucks! "Minus the god awful hood scoop" (their words)

For 40k plus, You have a mustang gt and ten grandish in waste. I love my car, love my old 5.0, my family has loved our 12 stangs, but Shelbys are crap, buy a vette for 45 and whoop on it.

The shelby runs the same time as a 350z and a mustang GT, and actually a GT stopped shorter than the Shelby. Shelbys name is crap now, might as well slap some stripes and a shelby sticker on a lawn mower.

ps. I think it looks kick ass, see them all over down here in lauderdale.

Thats why most people that buy them just enjoy them. i dont think people buy em as a investment. The S-197 platform is great with lots of potential, personally i have more fun driving it then my Lightning. At the end of the day if its worth 50k or 1dollar its all about enjoying your car. If the Shelby today is a ghost shell of what they were in the 60s or not, he's still driving a car he enjoys and he gets to look at the pretty Shelby dash plate.

I say congrats and enjoy your car. If i could have afforded one i woulda bought it myself.

I agree, Shelby has been around a long time and will continue to be a nameplate such as Maytag and Sears.

Well thanks for bursting my bubble. All i said is it MIGHT have some collectability, don't really care if it does or not. Bought it to enjoy it. Paid below MSRP and don't put any stock in car mags opinions.

Don't care how fast new Vettes are, they look like dick, they didn't make a bodystyle i like after 72. We have an 06 GT and i'll guarantee it won't keep up with the Shelby GT i test drove.

And since you mentioned it i might put some Shelby stuff on my lawn tractor, not a bad idea.

Barbarino is either stupid or just jealous...... fact of the matter is, YES the Shelby (both the GT & the GT500) will have some amount of collector's factor, just as the original versions still do. There were people like V. that said Saleen and Roush cars are nothing more than GTs with body kits but yet their resale value is dramatically higher than standard models.......why you ask? Because they're a special edition which will always draw more attention and typically more money than the standard.

An investment? No..... no car is ever truly an investment. But collectable, yes. Good for you for buying what you want.... and if you did get it below MSRP, you could probably sell it TODAY and make a profit.

Some of my wife's family works for Ford. This is the first new Ford i've bought that i couldn't get on A-plan. I have done business with this dealer for over 20 yrs. so they gave me a pretty good deal under MSRP, so i'm satisfied.

You are correct Tom about cars not truly being an investment. I have been putting money into IRA's for over 20 yrs. and those "investment's" are a big part of what has enabled me to purchase this car.

I will be retiring in a few years, so the collectability of the car is pretty much a non issue to me, as this will be the "toy" i retire with. It was pure speculation on my part. I won't live long enough to see it happen, IF it does, although i think anything with Shelby's name on it will retain a larger % of it's value.

Thanks for the vote of confidence.... now if i could only get the wife to go for the supercharger option available from Shelby for these cars while it's out there for conversion.

If you would have bought it for sticker I would have been disappointed. Being that you got it for under MSRP, it's a pretty slick car.

Window tinting right away, and wheels at a later date are the only things i plan on. That's all i did to my Mach other than the shifter, and this car already has a nice one. Some cars lose value when modded to much.

Machn, ... I think you made a great choice! And I also love the old school look blending with the new technology. (I'm 60 ... no spring chickens here!

I would have also went for the Shelby, but the dealer was just too darn "proud" of the Shelby's they had in the showroom.

I believe the center caps are stock. Yours should have the same wheels.

Glad to see someone who owns both a SN-95 and S197 at the same time come to this conclusion and post this opinion.

I love my SN-95 GT, but it's a relic of times past. From my seat time in 2005+ Mustangs I totally concur with your assessment " the new platform is light years ahead of the previous models." I'd love to get a new S197, but since my 2001 Stang GT is a 3rd vehicle and is just garage queen toy, I haven't yet been able to justify the upgrade.

I know this idea has caused quite the stir about the forums, BUT it does not make one's car...OR tractor a wannabe/poser Shelby...merely Shelby-esque
I'm a firm believer in owning your own car and doing with it whatever you want...personal gratification!
