I'm sure this asked been asked and aswered before, but my search didn't turn up the answer. What is the difference in weight of a stock sold axle vs. a Cobra-type IRS? Anyone know?
I'm in the market for another Musting since selling my last one. And, I'm on the fence about whether to look for one with IRS, or stay with a solid axle. My '89 had the stock solid 8.8, but we also had a '97 T-Bird with IRS. In many ways, the T-Bird was more well behaved (handling & ride) than the 'stang. But, the IRS is heavier, and straight line performance might suffer a bit, too. I'll make use of my next 'stang just like the last . . . mostly daily driver / street car, with the occasional cross-country trip, so it needs to be relatively well behaved. Maybe I should do a poll.
