For awhile now my car has had a squeak/squeal. It would also bog down really bad sometimes at idle. Well today I went back to work from lunch and heard it squealing more than normal and smelled something. I popped the hood and noticed alittle smoke coming out from around the compressor. The clutch is also vibrating like crazy.

The A/C blows cold, and I haven't used it since I noticed this. My question is do you guys think it is just the clutch? The compressor also cycles on and off what seems more than normal to me.

Just wanting to know if I can just replace the clutch to save some money.

...I can take it. I think.

My bet is the clutch. Search for compressor clutch replacement. I posted up a how-to here.

Here it is... http://forums.stangnet.com/614300-replacing-ac-compressor-clutch.html

make sure also that your metering valve is operative if its a txv and if its a ccot make sure that your accumalator is working properly. if your getting any fluid to that compressor its gonna mess it up

Think I'm going to replace the whole thing. Can get a new compressor w/clutch, new accumulator, and orrifice tube for like 160$, the clutch alone almost costs that much. I'm just gonna spend the extra 60$ or so and put in all new parts
