hey guys, i was hoping that you guys could give me some info on the 1998 gt. i still have the 02 gt and for anyone that cares, finally that 02 is going back in the shop. turned out the blower was blowing oil all through the set up internally. the whole thing had to go back to paxton and there was oil all in the intercooler. intercooler had to be cleaned and i had to buy a new maf set up cause too much oil ruined it. anyway, hopefully paxton fixed it right this time. its not back on the car yet. it goes on this week and we will see. i was just going in for a pulley swap and thats what happens!

ok sorry, back on topic. im getting a new dd to replace the old tauras. its a 1998 gt vert but i needed to know a few things. this will be the dd and staying stock. the wheels were chrome and are peeling....dont know why. but i need to replace them. what is the stock sizes of the wheels 17? what about width? looking foe wheels and tires to replace them. i will prob stay stock sizes so i dont mess with the car clocking the wrong mileage or something. if i did go 18 i would do the calculations to get the lower pro tire so the overall diameter is the same. anyway, what do you guys have any pics would be good. the car is white in great condition and i was thinking black or black chrome saleens or black bullits with a silver lip. what do you think.

also im a bit concerned with the gass mileage for a dd. stock for stock the 98 says its gets 1 less mpg then my 02. i guess the pi heads? anyway, how bad is it? i do do a bunch of stop and go. the car is a auto. the gov site says 15mpg. let me know any info you have on these things.

thanks, sorry im all over the place on this one.

The stock wheels on mine were 17"x8". Here's a picture of mine with 17x9 chrome Cobra R's.

The best fit on a 17x8 is a 245/45-17. And I think that is the stock size as well. Best fit on a 17x9 is a 255/40-17 or 275/40-17.

When I was stock (3.27 rear gears), highway fuel mileage (75-80 mph) ranged 25-27, and around town/stop and go driving got me 21-23. Racing and driving the crap out of it got me 19-20.

I have my 1998 Mustang GT coupe. I'm also in NJ. I do a bit of highway / city driving. I have a few mods, nothing crazy. My car came with the 16" waffles. I swapped those out asap for a set of aftermarket saleen style 18"

The car has had its ups and downs. I had a problem with the purge flow valve (it needed to be replaced/check engine light p1445) Then ended up having to purchase 4 new ford oem O2 sensors. but you have to remember 1998 was 12 years ago. I try and keep that in mind when something goes wrong. I recently replaced my fuel tank grommet (it was rotted and whenever i put gas in the tank it leaked like crazy) I've had this car for about a year, if i had to do it over, id still have purchased the car, but i def would have not bought the rims/tires/exhaust and saved for a supercharger. but whatever mods/experience is what its all about.

I put regular fuel in my car. Ive taken it to the track (ran a sloooooow 14.9) and had it dynoed (200hp 260torque) its a fun everyday car. Iv taken it down to wildwood and back and got something like 19 mpg. I have stock 2.73 gears and thats before the replaced oem o2 sensors etc.

not sure if that answers yours questions....
can you really have too much mustang.....

Better mileage than me, I get about 20 mpg 50% city, 50% hwy. Best I've gotten on the interstate for an entire tank was about 22-23 mpg...

Gears. Everyone says that they don't make a difference in fuel mileage, and that is BS. Especially on the freeway.

And I really babied mine back when it was stock....

My granddad's 01 auto vert gets identical mileage as mine.

I only got 22-23 mph on the hwy when my car was 100% stock. Since getting gears the best I can do is 21 mpg on the highway.

Why complain about mpg if you are doing performance upgrades to a v8. That's like saying I want to see John Force get 30+ mpg and still go low 4s in the 1000 ft. All I'm saying is f you want mpg's get a honda, if you want fun get a Mustang.

thanks for the info guys. any more pics of 98 with aftermarket wheels mainly black of some sort? im going to get some kind of black wheels for it. the car is white not sure how it looked.

im not overly concerned with the gas mileage i know its a mustang and i already have one. however, this one is staying in stock form for dd. when i saw the gov. fuel site saying 15mpg i was thinking holy crap, thats bad. i didnt think it was that bad but wanted to make sure. if its 15mpg i wont buy it. if its 17 -18 i can handel that. that is fine for a mustang. so yea, i get its not a honda...you should see my mpg on my modded stang! lol!

Hmm...that is a little low. I definitely got more than that back when I was stock; heck, I do a decent amount more than that now with the blower.

Nah, I doubt you'd EVER see 15 mpg on a stock 98 GT, or at least I never did. Worst I ever got stock was after a FULL night at the track (something like 35 passes at the track), and I got 17.x. Worst I've ever got with the blower was 15.2, and that was after an afternoon of racing at the track and playing around on the streets of Raleigh afterwards. 22+ mpg shouldn't be a problem with mixed driving assuming you can keep your foot out of it.

well, i bit the bullett and picked one up for daily driving...thought id share a pic and info. its 1998 with only 10,753 carfax certified miles on it and its extremly clean. (should be with those miles) got the car for 10 grand even. came out to be about 11 grand with tax and tags. pretty good deal provided the car stays running good and nothing is wrong with it. seems great so far but i only picked it up today. anyway, here it is

even with 4.10s in mine while outta town for work my wife drives mine and can get 20-22mpg, and thats shifting at 2200-2500. me on the other hand will at worst 17mpg, at best 20. so it wouldnt hurt to maybe swap in a better gear, yours may have 3.08. so swap in a 3.42 or even 3.73s since its o/d tranny, that will defenitly help around town driving
