Some porting pics!!!

Just wanted to share some of my pics and get some oppinions, which i'm sure there will be.
But has been a couple of months got my two month old son and my girl and have opposite hrs so makes for a hard time to do anything!!

I'm in a process now of getting an oversized Valve kit and comes with guides that will make up for the bumps!!!
I actually took it down to an angle of the back wall so there is still some resistance.
The whole idea is to get the air in and out as fast as you can I thought!! being you can't get the exhaust ports that big as well.
I guess will see what happens don't hurt to try...
 
Well, new guides will probably do the trick there...I believe the "bump" helps to keep the air around the short side radius rather than it all wanting to bounce off the back wall...

The idea is to get the air in and out as fast as possible...unfortunately if you take a set amount of flow and let it go from a 1.5" tube to a 2.25" "pocket" (such as the entrance to the port where it's oval) then the air slows down...you lose velocity and the "in and out a fast as possible" goes away with it. The idea isn't to make it as big as possible...it's to make the port stay the same size from intake to valve and make it flow the most air possible without losing velocity (making it too big in certain areas).

I really think it would be a good idea to find a new core rather than spend the 300 or so bucks to put big valves in this one. I wouldn't be shocked if this head flowed worse than stock until over .500 lift (which is beyond everything but the nasty cams).

is it safe to take so much of the valve guide out of there? I am not being critical here, just trying to gain knowledge. I have a cousin that knows where there are many pre-80s pinto heads and I have been thinking about picking one up and trying to port it out, because I have read that those are the best heads for flow.

Yes , bad to remove that much of the valve guides for the above stated reasons. Though it looks good to the eye, and in my mind seems like an easy way to increase capasity of flow, there is alot about head flow we dont understand, and perhaps ford did (somewhat). They put them there for a reason (or two)...it may flow like crap in stock form, but it works...i suggested looking for pics on good flowing heads and do take some pointers/ideas from them. i left my valve guides but i ironed them into a point in the center and worked on the short side radius , i also cleaned up the bowls and then had the seats (of the big valves) matches with my bowls so there is no shrouding going on. But hey if you got the money, go find a flow bench and have it checked out, after all the work , you may want to atleast see how it does ( i know i do! ehehe)
 
I would have to argue that the bowl work looks excelent. I am however concerned about the size of the port.... Looks like you may have gone a smidge too far ;). I would try it anyway. Lol you should see what I did to my combustion chambers in the interest of experimentation :).
 
Well actually it's the same size right down to the valve opening.
I angled the the back where it goes down and left me a little meat where the bump is and going to shape just enough of a bump there to help break up the fuel and air mixture.
I have no way of measuring it so i used a ball of clay to make sure all the ports are the same roughly still working on it.
Can't hurt anything can't be any worse then what the head flows already!!!
But i am trying to get a hold of a oval port head from this junkyard but i have to catch this one guy there!!!
Hes the one i have to speak too!!
Just can't seem to catch him there but i'll keep trying..

:bs: Maybe from the middle of the port to the valve. I know better than to think the opening of the ports are the same size as the valve opening. They are bigger when stock, now you took another 1/4" of material all the way along the bottom (which is the opposite of what needs to be done).
