Ok when i ran my car at the track i ran a 16.8@ 84.75 MPH
I know its pretty slow for an AOD 5.0 but yeah.

I am wondering what all could have an affect on the time??

I know the fact its an AOD and has 273s hurts it.
What does a pretty much STOCK, good running stock AOD stang run??

How bad can a bad balancer affect times and mph??
My rearend needs a rebuild, could a bad rearend hurt E/Ts?

Do you think if i rebuilt the motor, a nice stock rebuild. Swap in a 5 speed OR stall/shift kit and then add my 390 rearend.

Would this make the car run what it should??? Or will i still be slower since i ran slow the first time??

I thought the AOD's came with 3.08's stock, and the 5 speeds came with 2.73's. I'm not sure on the blancer, but if your rearend is due for a rebuild, it can quite easily affect your ET's.

How many miles on that motor?

Have you ever listened to a AOD car with stock gears going down the track? Sounds like it's barly accelerating and usually is doing what it sounds, being a slug, like everything is in slow motion. Mustangs were geared real high from the factory to improve the MPG, but they killed the MPH.

Rebuild the rear end, I would go 4.10. If it's too low of a gear, you can always get a taller tire which will only improve traction. Be sure to have the traction-loc rebuilt as well, even if you think it's good, I am telling you it could be better, and that makes a big difference. This alone would wake up your car.

The AOD/AODE are decent transmissions but were never intended to get the car moving fast, so it needs some work. Assuming the tranny is good:
- one thing you need is a tranny cooler, get a cooler like the B&M Supercooler. Your radiator has a cooler which isn't really adaquite in the first place and I can tell you from experience that deposits both fron coolant and inside the cooler deposit reducing the cooling capability. If your radiator is stock, it's probally barly working.
- A 2500rpm stall like the TCI street fighter would be minimal, but I say a 3000rpm stall would really get it moving.
- A shift kit would help those shifts. Raising line pressure and shifting faster can acutally save your tranny by preventing any slippage.
- Personally, I would do a manual valve body, then you are in complete controll and there is no 1-D-1 suffle needed which isn't good for the tranny.
If there is any question about the health of your tranny, but it isnt' slipping or anything, while it is out (installing the stall ) a good tranny shop can usually do a soft parts rebuild for a decent price with upgraded bands.
-one way to check for the health of the tranny is to check the fluid, if the fluid is old, change it, if it gets dark fast, then you have slippage usually. This can also be a result of the cooling issue mentioned before.

I think with all this, you'll be driving a different car.

If you have a bad balancer...forget about how it's slowing you down, and realize the fact the vibrations it's creating are doing significant damage to your engines internals. You indicated earlier that you were looking at selling your vehicle..selling it and purchasing a new model with the options you want is likely your best bet.

Yeah i guess, i really want am wanting a 5 spd car with a bad motor, so i can rebuild it and KNOW its good.

There is this kid who has a 5.0, i asked around and found out they bought the car for 500$ in someguys backyard. Its a medium grey/silver 89 GT.

It has a bad motor, they planned to fix it up, but its just been sitting for months.This kid got a camaro z28 so he doenst need the stang.

Me and my dad called about it and they said they just bought a truck 5.0 motor to drop in it, just to get it running. They have a daughter who needs transportation until her Kia is fixed, then they are going to sell the mustang.

Its a decent car, i would pay like 1000 for the car with the bad motor.

Somethings wrong with your car. Your MPH is real low.

Even though your car is an AOD, you should be trapping at least 90MPH. Trapping 84MPH means you are down on HP for some reason.

MY bone stock '88 AOD ran a 14.7 @ 93MPH stock. High 14's are what a good stock AOD can run.

AOD's came with 2.73's stock and 3.27's as an option. 5-spds came with 2.73s and 3.08' as an option.
