I never knew that that door panel is a small panel that covers the CENTER of the door instead of the whole thing. I was always wondering that because the area of my door around the center felt like metal, so i always wondered. "the mustang door panels are metal? yeah, im kinda slow to these things!

so now, I have to paint that whole inside part black, because I want my interior to be black. Anyone have any suggestions of what kind of paint to use on the inside of the doors and the dash....? That lime green is hideously ugly!

Ford used lacquer based paint on the inside of the doors because it goes on real thin and won't fill in the grain on the door.

after you clean off any suface rust and other junk

wipe it down with laquer thinner and run a tack cloth over it before spraying.

Right, it is a laquer. Also, the metal under it does rust and the old paint should be removed with stripper, not abrasives.

Thanks a lot! What if I sandblast the inside? Not with really abrasive media. What kind of media would you suggest?

EZOff oven cleaner in the yellow can will do a great job. I don't think there is a really suited media for this except for walnut and soda and they may be too gentle?

Plastic media might work ok, but it would be far less trouble and mess to just get a pint of Jasco in the red and gold can. If that is the chosen method, be careful not to get it stuck in cracks where you can't clean it out (just use sparingly).

If the whole interior of the car is out and the doors removed, then media blasting may be easier or faster. Ideally you want to minimize roughening of the metal.
