something dripping under the hood?

i heard water hitting something hot and evaporating quickly, so i opened up my hodd. on the passenger side, coming out of the firewall there is a small rubber spout, that drips occasionally and the liquid hits my k pipe right after the header connection. i think its my ac, but i just want to make sure.

Did it happen right after running the AC? It sounds like the AC condenser drain tube on the passenger side which is located vicinity the header and makes a nice sound as it drains and the water hits the warm exhaust. If that's it there's nothing wrong so don't worry.

It is either the item stated above, if you've been running your AC, the drain dumps water out on your h-pipe; Or that more sinister problem of your heater core is starting to let go. It uses the same drain. If you WERE running your AC, no problem. If not, or you don't have AC, well, get ready to rip out the dash....

This is very true, however, if it was a heater core, you'll be leaking coolant, and the smell of burning coolant is pretty obvious. As stated here, lets hope it is not a heater core. Deffinetly sounds like a bit of Condensation from the AC. Its been hot almost all over the US......

Same problem here, except I've only noticed it when getting out of the car and closing the door.

The motion of the door "slamming" shut (for lack of a better word) seems to spill something onto the exhaust.

I haven't looked under the hood to see where it's coming from, but is there any way to tell if it's from the ac or the heater core?

My fan speed switch only works on high as well, and on occasion I get "steam" coming out of the vents. On top of this my car seems to go through coolant faster than it should - which would mean heater core or head gasket right? And there's no white smoke coming out my exhaust...

Yeah, the cool evaporator lines collect the water in the air, and once it builds up enough, it won't stay anymore and needs to go somewhere.

The clue to look for is if the water is perfectly clear, then it's something external, since the car doesn't use any pure water in anything.

Exactly. Mine was doing this when running AC, but not leaking water where it was supposed to. I worried at first. Come to find out, it was just conensation build up dripping off the lines.....

Exactly.
If you run your car w/o it on , the prob will stop.
Just evaporator sweating like a mofo on steamy hot days. Take a look at it and you'll see the next time you hear that strange noise.

The condensation will build up in a lot of places, however, this dripping bugs me, as my h-pipe, whoever put it on, used a cheap one, and it's rusting where the water runs down it as it cools....one day i'll get a really nice one, but the rust line looks kinda neat.....lol
