I am so glad I finally found a thread about this, I thought I had messed up my suspension somehow since something sounds like it it loose and clanking when going over rough spots. It is definately more pronounced on the passenger side like someone had said earlier. I am so tempted just to pick up some aftermarket struts to see if it fixes it b/c I hate cruising down the street and having my car souind like a rattle box when it is not even a year old yet.

How involved is the installation of the struts? I was looking at the Roush struts, but does anyone know which struts are supposed to be the best?

I Have This Noise Too!

I have also had this clunking and rattling noise from the front end since the car was new and it's still there after 7000 miles. It is most noticeable when the car is cold and moving at low speed over small bumps and surface irregularities. It seems to be coming mainly from the passenger side but it is hard to tell for sure. I have noticed that when the windows are open, I cannot hear the noise and also that I cannot feel any problem through the steering wheel. Everything feels tight. When the windows are closed, it sounds like something is ready to fall out of the front end and it drives me nuts. I have had it into the dealer to fix the "popping noise" when turning (as per a TSB). The popping noise is gone now but the front end rattle is still there. The mechanics at the dealership can hear it but they don't know what to do about it. I really wish somebody could tell me why the car makes this annoying noise and what is required to fix it!

Guys it's the bolts at the top/bottom (or both) of the vertical brace that connects the sway bar to the strut. Use a wrench (I forget what size) to hold the nut in place, and an 8mm socket for the bolt. Turn the BOLT with the 8mm socket to the LEFT to tighten, yes the LEFT. If it moves at all, there's your issue. Mine needed another turn and as of this morning the car is rock solid over everything from crappy road ruts to RR tracks. Check it out.

Any new updates on this?

I have an '06 GT that has this exact symptom. Dealer swears everything is tight, and basically insinuates that I don't understand the kinds of noises a "sports car" makes. This is supremely frustrating, and I can't get any resollution. Has anyone got a solution yet? (Swaybar endlinks are not the cause, for me anyway).

I've given up on my dealership as well. I figure one of the suspension upgrades I'll eventually get to will fix it or something stock will break and then I can take it to the dealership to fix the broken piece. Either way, it's really annoying to have a brand new car with a clunk in it that the dealership swears doesn't exist.

By the way, not a swaybar issue for me either.

Not my issue either Jason. I have yet to find anything that seems to be a real fix for this nagging wide spread issue. Today I found a new cure at another site. An a-arm support bar. Apparently it's used on converts and the Shelbys. BMR also makes an aftermarket piece. I thought COOL, that may be it. Then I ran across another post who said he had tried it to no avail.
So we sit and wait till Ford hopefully comes up with THE CURE!

god help us all

I have been active on mustangforums.com and our thread is up to nearly 600 posts on this issue. I personally have replaced every piece of front suspension with aftermarket [Steeda and BMR] parts including A-Arms, ball joints, endlinks, swaybar, struts, shocks, and added a strut tower brace and a g-force [a-arm] brace. . . $2,500 later and I'm still clunking. I first tried Steeda HD strut mounts. Nope. Then removing the swaybar and enlinks. Nope. Made my own Aarm brace. Nope. Spent all this money. Nope. It's better now, and isolated to the passenger side, but it's still there. Allegedly, several sources have confirmed a TSB in the "2nd Quarter" but I'm not holding my breath.

Some have had luck removing the swaybar. Others have swapped for Tokicos and lowering springs of whatever brand and had luck. Some have moved the spring isolators up one coil and silenced their noise. Still others tightened endlinks and the noise abated. Whatever the problem is, I think it's DEMONIC!!!! At this point I have no better explanation. . . although I'm all ears!

save your money!!! it's not the A-ARMS I PROMISE YOU 100 PERCENT. i don't even HAVE the OEM Aarms any more and my car STILL clunks!! Ask the dealership for the aarm brace that's on the convertibles and the GT500s. That's the only thing I've heard of that seems to totally cure it.

Subscribing, I've got the same issue since the car was new. Getting ready to replace the entire suspension to resolve issue.

see my posts at the end of this thread. SAVE YOURSELF THE MONEY AND DON'T DO IT unless you were going to do it anyway. I spend at least $2500 and replaced EVERYTHING down to the A arms and ball joints and NO LUCK. It's something none of us, including the techs, know about or can figure out. Wait for somebody else to figure it out.
