I am brand new to the S197 body style. I picked up an 07 SGT about a week and a half ago. I have had Pre PI GTs, PI GTs, and some SN95 4Vs...but these new 3V motors are foreign to me.

Ive heard people talking about CMDPs and CMCV deletes. What do the acronyms stand for and what do these parts do?

I'm sure I sound like a complete dumbarse

CMDP'S? Maybe UDP's=Underdrive Pulleys

I think you mean: Charge Motion Delete Plates.....?

At the bottom of the intake runners there are butterfly valves, they open up at around 3k rpms, you should feel a surge of power around there. They are for fuel economy or some crap like that. The delete plates remove the valves and require a 'tune' from a handheld tuner to take advantage of the performance gains and avoid a check engine light.

Now why the heck would Ford do the dumb butterfly trick on an OBDII car? That was the rage with OBDI and it got dropped by many manufacturers with the switch to the new standard.

Because as crappy as it is for WOT performance, it does a great job of maintaining low end torque at part and mid throttle applications as well as allowing you to retain great fuel economy.

Meh... my SCT tuner did a better job with low end and fuel economy then butterfly valves could ever come close to achieve.

Because Ford had to make a choice..... Small intake ports (remember the pre-PI ports?) or bigger intake ports and trick them into thinking they were small at low rpm.

BTW If you look at the bottom of the intake runners you will see the alumium assembly that houses the butterflys. You will also see the little motor on the end that actuates them.
