This may be a very "noobie" question
Is there any difference between an '00 gt motor and a '04?
I have been test driving a bunch of '04's but i am looking to get an '00 drop top. I love the '04 power, just don't want to get too disapointed if there is a difference
Cheers
Cooper

There are some minor differences. For example the MAF. Also, the transmission is different to (5 speeds). They switched part way through 2001. But, as already stated, the power ratings are the same. In 1999 is when the motor changed significantly fromt he previous year.

If there is anything that was different performance wise it would be the compression in 99-00 9.0:1 and 01+ GT's having 9.4:1 compression. No biggie though. On the side note: if you get a GT with the Tremec 3650 transmission i highly recommend you get the "fix" they have for this transmission. I wouldn't want you buying a "new" car and ****ing grinding out of nowhere. Remember more than likely the car you buy won't have warranty so you'll have to be paying for this "fix" out of your own pocket. If you do still have warranty you're in luck.

Driver's side door post - on the Vehicle Certification Label, under "TR", the newer Tremec is listed as a "K", whereas the older T-45 will be listed with a "6" .
Check this webpage for full info on late model mustang VIN/VCL decoding:

The Tremecs are a more iron clad tranny, but they do have the grinding issue.
