I understand that this is a common question and I DID search this topic, but only ended up confusing myself. Basically, I am replacing the cap/rotor/wires/plugs on my 90 GT. Is there any benefit for a n/a stock motor to upgrade to any type of performance brands or will the basic motorsport or comparable replacement be just as sufficient? I basically only plan on seeing the gain from the tune up with new parts.

I originally was going to use Ford Racing but was told that 9mm wires and the upgraded cap was wasted money.

THen I was planning on Accel cap and wires and autolite platinum plugs and then read in my search that platinum is wasted $ and may be worse

I am new to all this so therefore any/all advice is appreciated. I am not so concerned with which brands to use as which level of performance would do me any good.

Thanks

There aint nothing wrong with nice wires. I think the Ford wires are a nice deal for a nice lookin wire that should hold up decently compared to some other stuff.

For plugs, my choice is Autolite 25's (stock). Motorcrafts are exactly as good.

For a cap and rotor, I simply got brass terminal units from the local parts store (I had to call around to find a place that had brass terminals for a decent price).

That is my two cents.

Good luck.

I think the Ford 9mm wires are the best, dont use platinums, just go with the Autolite 25's. I also got a brass terminal cap and rotor from advance for like 20 bucks

I use Champion plugs in my TW heads. Have to say, they work pretty damn good! I think my gap is around .050 and I also have a MSD Blaster II coil and MSD cap and rotor. I got some FRPP wires coming from Summit, but I've had a set of Schucks wires on it for about 3 years and they've been great as well.

Copper plugs are fine, better to buy cheap plugs and be able to replace them more often if you need to. Autolites seem to work well.

I went with Taylor wires and an MSD cap. The cap has brass terminals and the wires seem to be very well made, so I don't mind paying a little bit more. I'm sure quality stock replacement stuff would function just as well, but these also look a little nicer under the hood.

I use Autolite 25 plugs and a brass terminal cap from Autozone. I previously had some bosches and I think the Autolites are better and they are cheaper.

I've got MSD 8.8 SC wires, MSD Cap/rotor and NGK Iridium IX plugs. Got the plugs at a steal, so figured I try them out. No problems so far!

Get Motorcraft or Autolite plugs they are the same, get the Acell cap and rotor kit, cheap $18 and it has brass terminals. Also spend the $35 for the 9mm ford Racing wires, You will be happy!

Do I want iridium plugs?

My setup: 10:1 pistons, 303b cam, 1.72 roller rockers, underdrive pulleys, 65mm BBK throttle body, gt40 ported and polished heads, MSD wires and coil, Spectre Performance ram air intake, H pipes, Flowmaster Super 40 mufflers, sub frame connectors, 4.11 rear end.

A few upgrades in storage waiting to get installed.

Go ahead and get the ford 9mm wires. I just put in a set last week and I like them. They seem to be pretty good quality for the $. I'm also using autolite 25's gapped at .045 and they're doing great. I love jagermeister.
