Time to do a tuneup.

What kind of Plugs & Wires do you guys use? I have 2000 V6 5-speed (not that it matters).

Has anyone seen power gains from Platnum? either Motorcraft or Bosch?

Well when i did the tune up to my 2000 v6 5spd i bought and instaled teh bosch and i am extremely satisfied with mine so i would suggest them, but also just make sure u mark the spark covers so u dont put them back on wrong, because yr plugs will fire at different times if u dont. :spot:

I run standard autolite copper cores.... No intentions on letting my car go 100K+ miles without changing plugs so i see no benefit in buying the Plats. which is the only benefit you get out of them.....But thats jus my $.02

Most important thing is to make sure you gap them....

If you get the 4 points you don't need to gap them and some/most of the better quality (NGK, Bosch, Accel, etc.) have a better, hotter, cleaner spark than the factory. Although you're not going to see a major difference unless you use them with a good ignition system, but by them selves they're still better than stock.

I have heard both things:
1) Copper Sparkplugs are the best the burn hotter, you just change them more.
2) Platinum provide more HP and the +2 or +4s provide a more open flame.

Has anyone actually compared the two?

Yeah i've heard both of those too. I've only compared my stock ones to the Bosches I have now and there is a difference (I also have more to the iginition system). But I say to make things easier on yourself and others, to just look at it this way. When you see the Nascar, Formula 1, Rolex Sportscar Series, and even just the regular road racing cars that have almost no modds, do you honestly think there running just plain and simple plugs? I don't think so. Now yes, I know they are substantially more powerful than our cars and they all use hard core ignition/fuel systems and about 90% of them are full bread racecars but still, like I said even the stock roadracers use somthing better, 'cause better than stock is still better than stock and when it comes to the life/performance of my car, i'm not going to just settle for the bottom of the barrel crap. I mean, i'll save up for a week or month or however long to make sure that i've got either the best product or something very close to the top of the list 'cuase I don't want anything crapping out on me. But, that's just me.

The purpose of the platinum tip is for longevity more than for the performance gain...as well as a good marketing tool to increase company profits.

Don't think The racing circuit is running A simple engine...meaning they require the parts that are matched to the performance of the engine.

As far as aftermarket ignition systems go. MANY manufactures recommend NOT using Platinum plugs as opposed to standard OE plugs. As well NOT using on NOS systems as well

BTW highly doubt an OE plug being bottom of the barrel because of the cost(money does not always equate to better). But to each his/her own your dollar...you earned it....you spend it....Holla

True, very true. I was just giving an example of when a race team uses plugs or whatever they don't go with whatever will be ok for that day, they go with some pretty nice equipment and yes I know they don't use just every day engines (hence why I said that earlier) they're all bread for hard core racing and everything is specifically tuned but still they don't use "factory" style plugs or wires or igniton packs of the sort. And yes a manufacturere is going to say "don't use there products, use ours." and people are going to go with what magazines/manufacturers say 50,75 and 100% of the time if they don't know what there doing or don't know anything about the subject. The best way for them to learn is to see everything first hand... I don't know, maye i'm just to specific about hwat I use/allow going into my car and my friends/families cars' I believe in useing better than good quality products for that kind of work, and it might verywell be me, there might be no difference in anything, but I seem to think so and i'm going to keep using what works for me. I also wasn't saying that factory plugs were bottom of the barrel I was just using it in general and I know that more expensive isn't always better (trust me on that one), just giving an example.

read my signature for my mod's what plus will be good to use with the blower and all...i have used a few different brands once the ones he had in got bad, they were bosch..platinum maybE? i donno, im pretty sure they were bosch though..but what kind run good with blown engines? iv done a search before and have been wondering awhile, but nothing ever turned up, thanx
