I have replaced some factory speakers in the past with aftermarket, pioneer mostly, and have found that they don't seem to have the same bass hit that the factory units do. I know that sounds odd, but i figure that most aftermarket cater to those that have more system anyway. The reason that I ask is that I have a F250SD with a blown front speaker. I have an alpine head that I think just put too much power to it, so I figure the others are not too far off. What brand speakers could I replace them with to get a good solid bass sound with still a good clear sound? Not wanting to really build a system, but just some good all around speakers?

A couple of problems occur when replacing stock speakers with aftermarket and powering with only a head unit. Especially if you push your HU hard. In other words, if you "like it loud". And if you don't like it loud, you are unusual. First of all, HU amps are not suited for high volume use. A HU rated at 50x4, for example, might produce 15x4 RMS. People sometimes think a HU rated at 50x4 is the same as a separate amp that is 50x4, but because of power supply differences, a HU amp is in no way the equal of a decent separate amp. Even one of the same rating. They are different beasts altogether when it comes to extended high volume use. Because of that difference, a HU amp will easily be driven into clipping the signal. This occurs when the amp is asked to do something it simply isn't capable of. This creates the most easily audible form of distortion. Secondly, to prevent distortion, you have to lower volume, which doesn't allow you to truly hear much audible difference between stock and aftermarket speakers. Most decent aftermarket speakers need to be properly amplified for you to be able to appreciate what they are capable of. 99% of HUs just won't cut it. Bottom line; aftermarket speakers will fill your need as replacements, and will sound fine, most likely. But the difference in sound quality will not be astounding with only the HU.

Bloomy is right....Even if you just got a small 50 watt amp for the new speakers, you'd most likely notice a world of difference.

in my experiences, after replacing stock speakers, the bass is not as loud, but instead it is cleaner. I have always used subs for the bass, and I put bass blockers, on all of my cerwin vega 6x8 3 ways in my old t-bird. Those were running off of a pioneer 40x4 head unit. They did sound much cleaner than the factory paper crap speakers. Now I have this mach thing in my 97 cobra, and that is something entirely different. I was very pleased with the stealth 6x8's. I probably would use them again if I could find them. Good luck

275W to 400W Speaker?

Is 275 watts enough for a speaker that can handle 400 watts? Im looking for a good sound without constantly maxing out the speaker. Anybody know of any good adjustable 800 watt amps?

My set of 6.1's just showed up about 2 hours ago. I can't wait until Saturday - gotta fab some mounting baffles and in they go... They're a quality piece.

Just throw in a pair of kenwoods and be done with it. If you're going to bother changing them to components (MB Quart ) or something like the dualmag kenwood.
