I posted this over in the "Sounds" forum but I haven't gotten any replies. My passenger door speaker is bad. I would like to replace it. What speakers can I use with Mach 460 that will still sound good? What size is the speaker?(5x7 or 6x8 or 9). I would like to replace it this weekend. I know the amps of the 460 send different high and low signal to the speakers. I believe the ones in the doors are a low to midrange speaker. Thanks. Pearl02.

They are subs. It may be the amp that is cooked not the speakers.
When the amp goes bad it will sound like the speakers are blown.

The driver side door speaker works and the other front speakers also works. The volume is still pretty loud. I'll check into it. Thanks. Pearl02.

The head unit powers the smaller speakers by the windows in the doors and two identical ones in the rear deck. The amps in the trunk power the two lower speakers in the doors and the two in the rear deck. They are 5x7-6x9 the smaller ones are about tweeter size that come with most component speakers, lows come from the 5x7-6x9 and highs from the smaller speakers. It's kind of tough to just replce a speaker in these cars unless you can find factory speakers

What would you suggest? I'll buy a pair of speakers and replace the driver one also if that doable. Pearlo2.

It's a little more complicated. The lower speakers in the door are small subs and only play lows, just replacing them with an aftermarket speaker may not give you the desired results. If you just want to fix the problem I would just get a factory replacement, maybe from a salvage yard.
If your looking to upgrade it may take a little more than you want to get into. When I replace the hu in the wifes GT it lead to new speakers, getting rid of the factory amps, rewiring the new speakers and adding a kenwood 4 channel amp. You don't have to go this route but you can see how it can snowball just to get the desired results. I will say it's 100% better than stock but will hit the wallet kind of hard.

The door and rear 6x8s are semi subs. They play 300hz and down. The amps are both mono blocks and run at 4 ohms mono. If you put in aftermarket speakers sometime (not on all stangs but most) the amps will occasionally shut down cause a 2 ohm load is too much for them. If you wana keep the stock head unit your best bet would be ebay for a used factory set. They are cheep and give way more bass than an aftermarket 6x8 will. Stock speakers exchange accuracy and defenition for low frequency extension.

The same speaker in my car is giving me trouble. It doesn't do it all the time. Sometimes it has a buzzy kind of sound that is most noticable at lower volumes. Other times it is fine. Someone told me there is a part of the speaker that comes loose and vibrates, causing the noise. I think I'll buy one on ebay and see if that fixes it.

Hi All,

This seems to be a common thing for the stangs then

My passanger side door speaker flakes out too! at lower volume levels and lower frequency levels.

Yes, they are exactly the same. The buzz is from the terminal lead. It becomes brittle over time and then breaks off and now the voice coil lead wher its soildered to the terminal vibrates against the back of the cone. It could buzz because the surround dry rotted too.

Thanks man. I may get with you on that. The funny thing is that the last couple of days the speaker seems to be working ok. I will do some more testing on it before I decide what to do. Thanks for all the replies and help everyone. Pearl02.

I'll take them if Pearl is not interested. How much for shipping to 37067?

i will argue you on that....they sound like poopy to me. they dont go very low nor do they hit anything very high. and the in between noise they make is muddy and un-defined. those were the first to go on my gt when i got it.

what are the mach 460 "woofers"? 2 ohm? or something goofy like 6 ohm

8 ohm so paralel they run the amp at 4 ohms. I learned this when I disconnected my rears originally and hooked up a DVC 8" Bazooka that was dual 8 ohm. Yes it should be a 4 ohm load paralel but a real sub will drop down to 3 ohms around 40-50 hz and the amp kept shutting off. I put a Rockford Fosgate load tester (wish I still had it ) on the stock 6x8 and they really hover around 10 ohms until they drop below 100hz then they hang around 8 ohms.

Did I confuse anyone yet?
Sorry, I just got off work and had a couple of these Bud Drys (good stuff ) and mixed with my back meds make me wordy and a little high

way to go ford for making a sound system that sucks balls. 8ohms is home audio territory. im glad i didnt have the mach460. i am using 2 pairs of 6.5" alpine type-r components in my car. i custom mounted the tweeters too. cut holes in the sail panels and the rear deck. it looks stock and you wouldnt know they were aftermarket unless i told you.

i know i have pics somewhere.
