well I'm gettin ready to (finally) replace my speedo cable. It came with this pack of lube and says to follow the vehicle manual instructions for proper lubing...but Haynes manual doesn't mention anything about speedo cable...so what am I supposed to do with this lube? just squeeze some in each end or what? thanks guys

also any idea how to get this stupid pin out on the tranny side? friggin thing won't come out. is it easier to take the whole speedo gear out with it and then take the cable off'?

If you think that pin is hard to get out, wait til you try to put it back in. I followed the instructions in a Mustang Monthly article when I replaced mine. Everything went fine until I got to that freakin' pin. They didn't mention it at all. They said just give the cable a tug and it will come out. I bought a Ford cable and it didn't come with any lube.

well I got it lubed up, and I got the old cable out. now my problem is getting it back in. I can't reach the hole from the inside. I just spent 45 min on my back under the dash trying like hell to get to that hole. this sucks. any tricks you learned?

wow what a little thinkin will do. for anybody that needs to do this, shove a piece of wire thru from the engine compartment and tape it to the end of the cable. pull it thru. chances are the cable will stop when it hits the grommet. pull off the wire and then push the core of the cable in as far as it will go (on the side inside). the core should stick out enough for you to grab and pull. voila!

ok how far into the speedo gear is the cable supposed to go? I can't get the speedometer to work. it doesn't bind or anything, and turning the cable actually moves the speedo. I tried shoving the cable in even further, but still no go. how far into the hole is that little flange-type-thing supposed to go? does it go past where the pin inserts? cause I can only just get it even with the edge of the hole.

You have to remove that pin.. put the speedo cable into the VSS and re-install the pin (thats a bitch). When i installed one on my old car, i had the speedo gear attatched to the speedo cable, and installed it that way.

Are you sure you have a speedo gear in the tranny? It's easiest to do it like i stated above.. the cable end is square so it will only go on the right way.

I guess tomorrow I'll try takin out the gear and installing the cable in it first. I did take the pin out, put the cable in, and reinstall the pin today. must not have gotten the end in right or something. oh yeah, and the pin isn't too bad if you straighten out the ends a little bit
