Hey, i need some help, what can i use to lube my speedo cable, it's really squeaking and making noises especially in the morning when i drive to school. Can i use regular motor oil? If i can would it run down the cable and go into the tranny and contaminate the tranny fluid, i would buy a new cable but im taking the motor and tranny out soon so ill replace it when everything is apart.I just need a temporary fix. btw its a 5 spd. Thanks

Don't use motor oil.

No, it shouldn't be able to get into the tranny.

You want to use white moly lube. That's what Ford uses. You have to pull the drive cable out of the cable housing (sheath???) and lube it and slide it back into the housing. Wipe off excess and reconnect to your speedometer.

The noise you hear is kinda common in Ford's from the 80's and 90's.
