so my speedo cable melted to my header and stopped working. so i got a replacement one from autostoned, and THIS one doesnt seem to be working right either. i pulled my VSS out to check my gear it looks fine. and when i spin it by hand you can feel the cable inside move. but when i stick my finger in the hole of the trans i dont feel my drive gear??? i just feel smooth metal. my guess is i busted my drive gear. but that seems like it would be a tough piece to break versus just breaking something on the cable... you'd think it would mess up my driven gear too...

I'm pretty sure the speedometer gear (internal) is plastic, not metal.

i know its plastic, i can feel the gear in there actually, now that i went back and spun the driveshaft, you can feel how the sides are wavy. so i know the gear is in there... but it feels like a couple parts of it are a bit more jagged then others. gonna go more into it tomorrow, i hope its not completely screwed up

I had the same thing happen. Just replace the cable and move on with your life.

^ i did replace the cable, the gear thats connected to the VSS will spin the cable by hand, but when i put it in the trans, it won't spin at all when i turn the driveshaft. i've already got everything off pretty much, i just need to figure out how to get the extension housing apart from the rest of the transmission... it seems stuck on there pretty good even though all the bolts are out

still had a bolt in the extension housing that i didn't see, LOLZ. now the housing slid forward a bit but its catching on the shifter block. when i drove the pin down i couldnt move the shifter block out of 4th... so i couldnt get it off of the shift fork so im assuming i need to use the housing to sort of pry it the rest of the way forward?
