Speedo Cluster Swap 88 to 90+

Quick Question:
I'm looking to swap out my 88 gauge cluster. Someone messed with it before i got the car and the backlighting is oddly bright green behind the tach. She has the original 85 mph speedo, I'm going to keep that cause it's allready screwed up from my 4.10 gear install. I know the bezels are different on the 90+ models, but are the gauge clusters the same. I can get a 90 cluster with the 85 mph speedo for cheap. Will this directly fit in or am i better off looking for an 87 or 88 GT setup.

if the guage cluster is from a 90 and has 85mph speedo, then it is from a 4cyl....which means it only has a 6k rpm tach

No it is not a direct fit. The wiring is all different. You can make one work, but you have to rewire the connectors to match the new cluster. Here is the wiring info on the differences:
