I just got my new parts to correct my speedo after the 3.73 swap, I looked around and still couldn't find my answer. I emailed a guy at 50resto and he said to get a 21 tooth speedo gear and a 7 tooth drive gear. My question is how do I get to the speedo drive gear? I haven't looked at it yet but I just wanted to get some info before I go looking for it. Is it hard to change?
Thanks

nope the stock tranny in a 93 (assuming this is the car your talking about in the thread) has a 8t drive gear so you'll need a 23 tooth speedo gear, there is no need to buy a drive gear only the speedo gear. also the gear is white.

The thing is the white 23 tooth gear likes to shred up sometimes. Some guys who run them go through several.

The 7 tooth drive gear will allow you to run a thicker 21 tooth gear that will not shred up.

The speedo drive gear is located in the T-5 tailhousing. If you are familiar with T-5's, you can replace it easily with the trans in the car. You'll need a hand removing the tailhousing as it will take two people this way. Or you can drop the tranny and do it.

If you don't want to mess with the trans, just get a white 23-tooth speedo gear. Just be ready to replace it if it ever shreds

ok, so it sounds like I have to take the tranny apart. And yes this is for my 93 and a 23 tooth would only fix the car for a 3.55 gear. I installed 3.73 gears, would it be worth installing the drive gear or should I just get a 23 tooth and let it read a little fast. The thing is that I already ordered and I recived the parts today. (21 tooth speedo, 7 tooth drive)

I have a 91 GT Automatic, in a couple of weeks I should be recieving my new aod tranny (hopefully)...any suggestions on what drive gear and speedo gear I should get with 3.73 gears? Figure it would be a good idea to do with the new tranny not installed yet :D
