wha color gear and tooth count is needed? ive looked online and cant find it

i believe i ran a white 23 tooth for my 3:73 and T5...

thats what LMR says for a car with 3.55's. doesnt list one for a 3.73 in the 90-93 section. dont know why. :confussed:

IIRC the one for 3:55s (white 23 tooth) is the closest you can get, your speedo won't be deadly accurate, but who really cares when the car is sideways

50resto's speedo gear chart is a bit off from the others I've seen. I'd suggest checking Steeda's site, as its list appears to be a bit more specific regarding years and types of transmissions.

Bear in mind that with a 23-tooth speedo, you're going to want to change out the tailshaft speedo gear as well to get anything close to a proper reading, unless yours already has the proper tooth-count tailshaft gear. Not an easy task. Also, I've heard a lot that the 23-tooth speedo gears don't last all that long because it's actually not even a Ford speedo gear - it's out of a Jeep, or something odd like that.

ur best bet is to change the speedo gear on the tailshaft to an 89 and get the red 21 tooth speedo gear

to much work if it eats it ill put another one in it and just guess my speed like im doing know. lol. when it says im going 80 im realy going 65. when it says 65 im really going 55. drove the truck with this one side by side that way i had a gauge to know what im doing.

That's pretty much what I'm doing with my '89. I stuck in a 21-tooth gear because I heard about the 23-tooth gears getting chewed up, and I've figured most of my equivalent speeds out either by adding 5, 10, or 15 MPH on top of the speed (30 = 25, 55 = 45, 80 = 65 or 70) or by going by gear and RPM (2,500 RPM = about 65 MPH). I'd like to have it read 100% correct someday, but it's not really high on my list of priorities.

That chart's kinda confusing for a simpleton like me. Doesn't say much about the AOD cars as far as whether they have a 6, 7, or 8-tooth tailshaft speedo gear - only makes mention of the T-5 cars. Did all AOD's from '83-'93 get the 6-tooth speedo? Or did they switch to a 7-tooth in '90, or what?

Mehh... when I had my gears done I had the white 23 tooth put in, as that was what was recommended by the shop that did the gears. It's worked for me so far.
