Well, finally got a hold of a V6 Cluster...slapped it in and it worked. If any of you know about the insides, you know that the there are 3 faces
1. Fuel/temp on the left
2. Oil/Battery on the right
3. Speed/Tach/Odo in the center.

Since the center is a separate piece, both the speedo and tach would have to be replaced, even though the tach side works....There is a small circuit board attached to each one (speed/tach)

The best I have found new for that center piece is $249. My other options are

1. Ebay (only 1 right now...never know whatcha gonna get)
2. what I mentioned above
3. Junkyard- Still not too sure what you get
4. I have a local shop that fixed/replaces clusters...not a bargain company, but "can" do the work.

Any other suggestions/links/prices/etc will be helpful.
Thanks

Do what I did. Remove the Speedo Needle. Remove the Speedo Section from the V6 and swap it over to the V8. Just disconnect the wiring between the speedo and tach I believe. I did this for the Tach on a V6 cluster so it would read a V8. Since you know the V6 one works us it.

Well the V6 one was not mine...I just got it to test.

I dont know if the speed translates exactly though..not sure.

Just called the speedo shop..Im looking at $100 to replace the circuit board on the back, have it tested, and get some small type of warranty on the repairs.

I think Ill go that route.

Thanks

i would go the 100$ route if it came with a warranty on thier work etc. But if i could find one on e-bay, i would try that first, i have bought quite a bit of stuff off there and not been burnt "yet" knock on wood.

you could buy a couple of bad ones until you got a good one off e-bay for less than 100$ :nice:

There are a couple on Ebay right now...$35 and $51 at the time of this, but I expect the $$ to go up another $20 before the end. (Plus shipping)

In addition, I paid a lot of $$ a couple of years ago to replace the little speed gear mechanism. I would RETAIN that if I fix it, and be stuck with old ones if I get a used one (even though I could "tinker" with it and swap it)..Also have the white face decal on my current ones

ANYWAY...I took it in today...the guy tested right on his bench and concurred it was in the cluster...He said he would have it back same time tomorrow.

I may not get it put back in tomorrow, but Ill keep you apprised.

Thanks

Good to see you finally made some headway RC

I hate it when a thing like that drags on and on :fuss:

WEll, it really only dragged on because of not having time to work on it...then taking awhile to get a cluster to test out. If I had alot of time and the cluster up front, it would have been done right away....Im not celebrating though until it's actually in and running :nice:
