speedo way WAY off!

Help!

I don't understand how my speedo can be off so much....
When I cruise down the highway at the same pace as everyone else probably 110-120kph my speedo reads anywhere from 145-160kph. I have 373s but there's no way my speedo could be that much off with just gears...

Anyone have any ideas?

Check to see if there is a speedometer shop in your area. If there is, ask about the Stewart-Warner speedometer gearbox. I believe it is either a 777 Series Drive Joint Kits and Parts or 666 Series Drive Joint Kits and Parts. It is a small gear box that fits between the speedo pickup gear on the transmission and the speedometer. It has quick change gears that allow you to choose almost any tire size and rear end gear ratio you want. This will allow you to get the accuracy with within 2%-3% or less. The drawback is that it isn't cheap.

you didn't put a new speedo gear in when you got the gears installed? WTF, the prob. is definately from the gears, unless you put a 140mph guage in from a 85mph guage.... new speedo gear is like 8 dollars.

Definatly get the speedo gear...like mentioned it is $8 bucks or so and is easy to replace...on the side of the transmission...

They don't make a speedo gear for the 373 for "our" T5...because the inner trans gear is an 8 tooth I believe and doesn't match well...but gets you within a few miles per hour of the actual speed traveled...I believe you get the 3:55 gear ratio speedo gear...

Somewhere back in late 1989/early 1990, they switched the speedo gear from a 7 to 8 tooth. Mine happened to be a 7 tooth...and all that was required was a red 21 tooth speedo gear. The stock 2.73 gear is also red, so dont get them confused.
