Hey guys, well at the moment im trying to get the speedometer cable installed back into the t5, and the thing will not go back in

The neutral switch and connecter are on the tranny right now, it seems that the gear is inside of that, becasue its not on the cable itself

It looks like the one on the left side of the pic, however on mine there is somthing coming out of the end of the cable, like a tiny spear.

I figured thats suposed to go into the tranny right below where the neutral switch / backup lights connect, into that connecter piece, but it just wont go in all the way, ive tried multiple times to try and get that spear piece into the hole in the connecter, but its not working.

Am i doing somthing wrong? My haynes manual is worthless...

The speedo gear should be on the cable before you install it. Did you get a new tranny and/or speedo cable? The speedo gear locks onto the cable w/ a c lock type of thing. It then is placed into the tranny and you use the a different "c" looking holder to hold it in (that one bolts to the tranny).

Here's a pic of where it goes:

And yes, you do need the speedo gear on the cable before putting it in. It shouldn't hurt anything if you don't put the gear on, but your speedo won't work lol.

its deffinatly not a new tranny, its the same one that i took out of the car before, also its the same cable.

The cable is the same as it was the day i removed the tranny, this is the way it came out, no gear or anything, i can only assume its still inside the "connecter" piece... it dosent look as your tranny has the connecter im talking about, here are some pics

The cable in your picture is the cable for cars with a VSS sensor. The VSS sensor is for cars with factory stock Mass Air or cruse control.

The VSS sensor looks like this:

The speedo gear mounts on the small metal end on the RH side.

The cable pushes into the wiring connector side of the VSS sensor and snaps into place. A spring clip holds it in place: do not remove the spring clip to remove or install the cable. Considerable effort may be requred to remove & re-install the cable. It is made more difficult by the fact you are on your back in a restricted space.

For non Speed Density and cars without the cruse control, the cable looks like this:

This mounts directly on the trans and is secured in place with a stamped steel forklike bracket & bolt.

So it seems that i left the VSS sensor on the car (it has cruise control and mass air factory), and took the cable out of the spring clip... so ill have a hard time getting it back in...

But all i really need to do is just push hard enough to get past it, right?
