On the way into work tonight, my speedo was dead. Tach worked fine but the needle on the speedo just stayed at 0. Pulled the battery for 15 minutes to reset the computer but no change. Speedometer stays at 0, and odometer blanks accross with -------- (dashes) after a couple of moments. Any input will be greatly appreciated. I can't get underneath the car to see if the speedometer cable has popped out the tranny or what. Next step is the dealership if I can't figure out..

Were you messing with the stereo last? I remember on my 96 GT when I used to mess with the stereo without disconnecting the battery I would blow a fuse. The fuse is a light blue 15 amp fuse. Everyhting worked perfectly except for the power locks, the stereo, the speedo, and it wouldn't count miles. The rpms worked and everything else worked fine. Hopefully it's just a fuse.

your speed sensor could be dead... or it could be one of the fuses

My car did that exact thing after my clutch install. ------- across the odo and SES. In the end, the place that installed the clutch had to replace the speed sensor inside the tranny or something. First he tried the enternal sensor but that wasn't the problem.

People here suggested checking the wiring on the outside of the tranny and to make sure the external sensor was plugged in. Everything seemed good so I dropped it back off at the shop and he found out it was the internal one.

thanks....I'll look at the fuse in the morning. I plan on taking it to the dealership at the end of the week if I can't figure it out.

Fuses are good, speed sensor is the next step. Spoke to the parts counter at the dealership and they run about $42. I'll drop the car off on Friday morning to get it installed.
