Car is a 1990 GT with a T-5 , 4.10 gear, and a 23 tooth speedo gear. At first everything was fine but, About 1,000 miles after driving my car after complete build my speedo needle on cluster started bouncing back and forth in like 5-10 mph incriments while driving. Just a few weeks ago it quit all together, and I also noticed trans fluid leaking from the cluster that was running up the cable. The past few days Ive been driving and it hasnt moved off zero. SO...I removed the stock cluster thinking maybe the cable had slid off the back of the cluster...I was suprised to see it was engaged on the cluster, so I checked the transmission end and it looks fine, SO.... and I replaced the stock 120 MPH cluster with a spare 4cyl auto cluster I had laying around (I assumed the transfluid damaged the inside of the cluster) and hooked it up....still not working.... Im asuming either I have 2 bad clusters or the cable is broken...Has anyone seen this before???

This happened to me when I installed a new gear. First noticed a little trans leak then the speedo started bouncing then the bounced really fast and then died. Took it home and lifted it up the cable and gear and started backing out but you couldnt tell until you started to take it out. I took it out and reinstalled it and everything is perfect now.

I believe I used an angled phillips to get mine out.

Well it is funny you mention that because at first I used a 1995 GT World Class T5 so I had to do away with the electric speedo by swaping the gear onto a NEW Advanced Auto standard cable.....however I didnt "lube" the cable cause didnt know where to. Anyway this was fine like I said for about 1,000 miles then started acting up....Then quit all together....Well it was at this time I figured I was going to install the correct 23 tooth speedo gear to correct for the 4.10's in the back and then check the cluster at that time. Well I just did this on Saturday and still nothing. Still that new cable shouldnt be leaking fluid into under the dash area. Is there a seal inside the cable???? I can get another new one for $20 and its not too bad to put in so Im going to take that route for now.

Well the mounting bolts are either torx internal with a 7mm head like alot of the other acessory bolts or a phillips head....Ive never had a problem with either...but a stubby phillips head works well. Chris
