Speedometer question

I replaced my broken speedo cable and gear on my '67, then found out why it broke. The speedometer itself does about 3/4 of a turn and hangs up. I know I can replace the whole cluster, or probably even just the guage, but I want to keep the original odometer in place since it's a 65000 mile car.
Anyone know if i can just replace the internal speedometer parts to make it work?

I remember seeing a company the rebuilds speedos in a search one time but don't remember the name; so,yes, they can be fixed and retain the mileage, but I don't know of any readily available parts for the do-it-yourselfer.

Thanks for the replies. I'll go ahead and pull the cluster, get it opened up and go from there. If I can't fix the original speedo I'll try to find a used or aftermarket one and move my odometer to it. Just don't want to hurt the car's value or worse, break any laws. Maybe I'll take photo's to help verify originality.
