speedometer

[old school 88]

Did a search but could not find my answer.The speedometer in my 88 GT conv,has not worked in a year ,today it works for a half hour than quits again so the cable has to be good, right? must be the speed sensor? Any help would be apreciated.

There are only two places you should look. First and easiest would be at the transmission end. There is one bolt holding the speedo cable in. Un-bolt it, and look to see if your gear is stripped. The other place to look is the back of the insturment cluster. You will have to remove most of the drivers side panels to get the cluster free. Then you should beable to look behind there to see if the speedo cable is still plugged in.
