can anyone please tell me the advantages of the spline 31 . I mean if i installed it, what will it do for me!??

your info will be greatly appriciated :nice:

thank you

All it will do is add strength to the rear axles. It won't make more power or add anything other than strength to the axle assembly. It'll be less likely to break under a high RPM, sticky tire type launch.

so your saying under street conditions, non sticky tires , non Hard launches. There is no way to mess up my rear end with the spline 31. is that right!?

they should handle street abuse just fine, but you also have to upgrade to a 31 spline differential to go with the 31s axles.

No i meant just installing the spline 31 diffrential!!!!??
will that be good and okay?

Spline 31's are great insurance :nice: I dunno why you'd really want to do it if you're not running DR's/slicks and going to the track  Maybe if you're doing some serious street racing. But they are fine for street use also.

what are the adavantages??? try rev limiter launches on slicks !!! my 31 spline eaton diff was 325$ and my 31 spline axels were 225$ so i have quite a bit invested in my rearend....it will cost you even more if you dont know how to install them

As the guys above have said, 31 spline differential and axle setup only offers added strength. However, its not a bad idea if you can afford it. When I swapped my rear end gears from the stock 3.27's to 4.30's, I went on ahead, and upgraded to a 31 spline assembly. No sense in doing a good job twice. Not that I "need" the added strength but, it is better to be safe than sorry. If you plan on doing this, expect to spend around 500-600 dollars for a decent setup. It will work great for the street and the track. As also stated above, you can not mate a 28 spline axles or differential with a 31 spline differential or 31 spline axles. Both must match is spline number

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Why not just snag the posi out of a late model explorer, with the 4.10s and set them up in your housing. Could probably be had VERY cheaply from a jeep owner swapping the 8.8 into a TJ or YJ, and wanting to go to a full locker and deeper gears. I've seen several low mileage carriers and gears for around $50 bucks, and I believe its what 2 pass. side 31 spline exploder axle needed for the stang? If not the dutchmans or the mosers couldn't be more than $250 :D

Under street conditions, with non-sticky tires and without hard launches, you have no need for 31 spline axles.

Personally, unless / until I go blown, I'll keep running my 28's till they break. Then again, I'm still under roadside assistance, so the tow is free.. :D

I do agree that if you're changing the gears and have the extra $600 lying around (on top of the $150 for the gears and ?? for installation) then yeah, put them on at the same time.
